New York, Sep. 24'th, 1844. Dear Anna, I suppose you thought it very strange, did you not? that in my last note I did not thank you for a little vase you sent me by John. The fact is, I had then never seen the said little vase, and knew not of its existence. John had so much business to attend to in Boston, that he had not time to execute the commission you trusted him with, unless he lost opportunity for the cars, and so had to stay another day. He, therefore brought your half-dollar to New York; where he lately bought with it the most perfect little vase you ever set eyes on. In color, shape, and proportions, it is faultless.
