L[ydia] M[aria] C[hild] ALS to Louisa Loring, June 23, 1844
Lydia Maria Child Papers, 1831-1894 [Box 1, Folder 26]
A phrenologist would say that love of approbation was quite prominent. She is very industrious and per- severing; charitable, and extremely kind-hearted. A reflecting mind - reflects much and profoundly. Is inclined to transcendentalism. The German philos- ophy would suit it best. The letter was written on some subject of much interest to the writer, and under an agreeable state of feeling. The first impression conveyed, on touching this letter was that of goodness, purity, and intelligence of the highest order." I will not apologise for sending you a copy of this; for I know you will feel some curiosity to see it. David has been at Northampton on business, for a fortnight past. Since he threw down the burden of the Standard, he seems like his old pleasant self again {written perpendicularly in the right margin} Has Dr Bowditch met with any peculiar trouble, that you know of? {end perpendicular writing} {address} Louisa Loring Chelsea Massts. {end address} {docket} June 1844 {end docket}
