[Lydia] Maria [Child] ALS to Louisa Loring, August 14, 1843
Lydia Maria Child Papers, 1831-1894 [Box 1, Folder 22]
Brimstone fires. I wonder The birds don't drop down dead when they fly over it, as The ancients say they used to when floating over Avernus. I would quit a boarding-house where his face dined often. I wish The spirit would move you to write once in a while; for David and I agreed long ago that Louise wrote the pleasantest letters we ever recieved. David desires most hearty love to you all. John com- -plains that I never put in half love enough for him, when I am writing. His visit to Boston is a golden page in his calendar of life. He is always talking of it. Give my best love to Augusta. Her charming letters are great enliveners of my life. Love to John and Jane. Tell the latter I thank her heartily for her sweet, sunny little note. My N. York Letters will be out in a week. Once in a while a twinge goes through me - What if I should get into debt by publishing them? I think not. {address} Louisa Loring. West Beach. {end address} {docket} Aug '43 {end docket}
