L[ydia] Maria Child ALS to James Munroe and Co[mpany], May 16, 1843
Lydia Maria Child Papers, 1831-1894 [Box 1, Folder 18]
like The Neighbors, or as a bound volume? Please answer this letter as son as you can. Ellis Gray Loring, State St sends a package to me every Wednesday Morning. A line left with him in season, would reach me by the package. Mr. Loring knows the merits of the Letters better than any one else. Perhaps you would like to talk with him about them. Charles Sumner of Boston, too, has read most of those that have been published. He is a stranger to me, and I do not know his opinion of them; but you can ask it. The Letters are of very various character, sometimes playful, sometimes mystical, sometimes mere anecdote and description, but generally of a poetic and imaginiative cast. Please answer as soon as convenient, for I have spoken to some publishers here, and I wish to decide who will publish them. Yrs respectfully, L. Maria Child. P.S. I do not know where Mr Hendee now is. Will you have the goodness to send the enclosed to him, if he is in
