New York Jan. 31st 1843 Dear Louisa, As usual, I again come before you to ask a favor. My niece Maria has now been here a month, and I hardly know how to afford to pay her board much longer. The man for whom she is accustomed to work will not want her, probably, till the middle of March. Will you inquire whether they would like to have any one for four or five weeks, at Ripley's Community, to make up dresses from the mantua-maker, vests, &c. any kind of sewing, on moderate wages. She does not cut garments, but is a good tayloress and seam- stress, and would be willing to help in making beds, dusting, &c. If you will inquire about this as soon as you can, it will greatly oblige me. I think she would pick up many things to improve her there, even in the course of a few weeks. I think it likely she will return with James R. Lowell, who talks of going next Saturday, or early in the following week. I should like extremely to have
