[Lydia] Maria [Child] ALS to [Anna Loring], August 16, 1840
Lydia Maria Child Papers, 1831-1894 [Box 1, Folder 6]
Nora is the Irish for Anna; so it is only your name in another dialect. If you don't know the meaning of that last word, look in the dictionary. Not in the big one, though; lest you should be "so fatigued." Aunt Maria is mischievous, you see. Tell mother if the Irish lass comes here under her protection, she is to be left at the house of Mrs. Hunt, very near the Unitarian church. Good bye. Love to father and mother, and dony, and Lucy Ann, and Rebec- -ca, and the book shelves, and Apollo, and the very walls of the old house. Hoping to kiss you very soon, I remain Your affectionate Aunt Maria. P.S. Carter has told me many funny stories; but never those you write of. Dont forget my love to cousin John. I should be right glad to see him too. Will you ask Mrs George Searle whether it will do to leave the Gladiolis root in the ground all winter? That root flourishes finely; but my Tigridia, that Lucy Ann gave me, died. {docket} August '40 {end docket}
