[Lydia] Maria [Child] ALS to [Anna Loring], August 16, 1840

Lydia Maria Child Papers, 1831-1894 [Box 1, Folder 6]

Northampton Aug 16th 1840. Dearest Nony, You pleaseant little letter was very welcome. Your letters always comfort Aunt Maria's heart; for she loves you very much. Tell dear mother I am longing for the 26th to arrive. I do earnestly wish Augus- -ta to come. Out of doors is so beautiful, that I think she can enjoy herself, if her in-door accommodations are not very good; and if she can be satisfied with the best I can do, she will impart to me a very great pleasure. I am sorry that John Dwight will be absent a part of the week; for he has been earnestly desiring their visit; and besides I think he is the most agreeable person in Northampton. All this is a message to your blessed mother. Now I will write to you. I have no kitten to purr aloud; and my great black cat is not sufficiently well-behaved to {docket} Lydia Maria Child Aug. 16 1840 {end docket}
