Confidential New Rochelle Jan 1. 1835 My Dear Sir, I have altered my destina tion. I am going to Mexico with Sandy and hope to sail by the first of Febru= ary. The barbarous & cruel Legislation of the South will drive the free colored people into banishment or slavery to a great extent during the coming year I want to be in a position to receive and help many of them. Will you join us now? Or if you cannot will you come next spring or sum- mer. We expect to establish a sugar plantation by a joint stock company You can get some of the stock taken up perhaps. If you cannot come shall be glad to have your assist- ance and society. We are anxious
