State of New Hampshire) Head Quarters, Exeter 29th: of May 1778 To Jonathan Chase Esq Colonel of a Regiment of Militia in Said State, Sir, you are hereby directed forth with to cause to be draughted or otherwise engaged from the Regiment under your command Nine— — —able bodied effective men and have them well equipt with fire Arms, Bayonets, Cartouch Boxes, & Blankets, and Send them forward to Providence in the State of Rhode Island to Serve as Soldiers under Such Officers as are Appointed, by this State, in Colo. Stephen Peabodys Regiment under the Command of Majr Genrl. Sullivan until the first day of Janry next if not Sooner dischargd, And you may assure them they are not to be removed out of Said State of Rhode Island unless in case of urgent Necessity, but in no case to Serve out of the New England States or the State of New York—And you are to muster and pay to each man you shall cause to be so draughted, or otherwise engaged, three pence pr. mile for Travel from their Respective homes to Providence aforesaid, and Twenty Dollars bounty, and fifteen dollars for one mon[ths?] advance [wages?], which Sum of fifteen dollars pr. month they will [be?] intitled to when discharged—All that have already inlisted in Said Peabodys Regiment for Said Rhode Island Service to be considered as part of the quota of the town they belong to, and in case more than the quota of any Town has already inlisted, the overplus to be Reckoned towards the other Towns in Said Regiment—You are to pay no money to those already inlisted—And you are Required, without loss of time to make due return of your doings in the premises, with a Descriptive Roll of the persons so draughted or otherwise engaged, to me at head Quarters in Exeter, and to account for the money herewith Transmitted to you. —In Consequence of a Resolve of the Honourable committee of Safety of the State of New =Hampshire of this day— By order Major General Folsom Nathl.
