State of) New Hamps.) In Committee of Safety— Exeter March 27th. 1778.— To Colo. Jonathan Chase Whereas we have receiv'd orders from the Honble. the continental Congress for Immediately filling up the Three Battalions of this State—the places of those not Engaged for three years or during the war are to be filled up by Drafts from the Militia or any other way that Shall be Effectual—you are therefore hereby Directed to take immediate care that the Number wanting in your regiment not Engaged to Serve for Three years or during the war, be immediately filled up by drafts from the Militia or otherways Effectually Engaged to Serve in the Battalions of this State for the Space of Nine Months from the Time they Shall appear at fish Kill on Hudsons River the place of Rendezvous Appointed for them by the Resolves of said Congress Transmitted us—unless they Shall be sooner Discharged and make return of the men so drafted or Engaged to this Committee on or before the Last Wednesday of April next without fail, with Lists descriptive of their Names, Age, Stature, places of abode, and the Company from which they were so drafted of Engaged—also make returne at the Same Time of all Such in your Regiment who have Enlisted to Serve for three years or during the war—Each man so drafted or Engaged as aforesaid to have Three pence pr. mile Travel while he is actually marching to the said place of Rendezvous and Each man so drafted or Engaged who shall Supply himself with a good firelock & Bayonet a Cartouch Box and Blanket—and who Shall at the— Expiration of the Term of his Service produce to the Proper paymaster a Certificate from his Captain or other Commanding officer of his Company that he hath been constantly provided therewith Shall receive for the use of his firelock Bayonet, & Cartouch Box two dollars and for the use of his Blanket four dollars and in a like proportion for any or Either of them—and in Case any of {Note: Transcription provided by Sarah Caswell Angell Chapter, NSDAR}
