Exeter July 18th 1777— Sir In Consequence of a Vote of the Council & Assembly, of this days date you are forthwith to cause one Fourth part of the Militia under your command to be Drafted for the Term of Two Months, unless sooner discharged in order to prevent the further Encroachments of the Enemy— It is expected the Numbers Drafted will Compose Three Regiments Battallions the pay and Rations for the Officers will be the Same as in the Continental Army, and the Non Commission Officers and Private Soldiers will Receive four Pounds Ten Shillings Each pr. Month, one Months pay to be Advanced & paid them as soon as they are Ready to March by the Colo. of the Regiment who Drafted them— Each Battallion will be commanded by a Colo. Leiut. Colo. and Two Majors, one of whom is to go from your Regiment—And it is expected that you with the field Officers of three Adjacent Regiments will agree who the Gentlemen Shall be— and also See that the Companies are properly officered—Each private will receive 3d pr. mile for travel from his home to No. 4 where he will draw his Rations to be made up in the pay Roll— The whole are to be under the Command of Brigr. General John Stark—To Rendevous at No. 4 Imediately— I am your Humble Sert.— M Weare President PS. The non commissioned Officers will be paid the usual Overpluss above the Privates— Colo.
