The largest delegation was from Providence Rhode Island, which sent 25 pefsons, largely board staff and members. Every section of ~the nation was represented. Lester B. Granger, executive: secretary of the National Urban League, opened the gon-: ference by tracing the development of the League~s program. He pointed out that. with the growth of the League has come more demands for its services from cities having racial problems, and that budget needs were lagging behintl the League~s growth. Granger centered the race problem in the north around the break down of group discipline,: and urged the~ local leagues~ to. continue. their efforts in developing Négro leadership. Betause this activity is strictly; 2 a League activity, he stated that unless~ this leadership is developed bv the League, he feared it would not~ be done. ~ne highlight ~of ~fhe confer: eriée was the., Teview of ~the grieving departments~ of the Natidpal League program. There were many points of emphasis in the conference which tended to: outline the League program for the coming ~year. The advantages gained bv the GI through legislation was sited as a great possible gain for the Negro. IntroAucing new ~ emphasis in Teague develanoment, Leo J. Neielski. president of Nejelski and Company, Inc., Coiinsels for management, stated that the | League needed to gain a great-, or. body of statistics to give greater foundation to its. program. He also stated that there was need for great study of | the: phychological - factors of the Negro in industry. | There was great need,. he said. for Neero leadership to become sharper in the art of detecting racial tension. thus planning to eliminate these areas before they develop. The conference was ~ given orestige by many national leaders such as Mary McLeod Bethune, who gave a stirring address, stating that this present generation of youth would do ~more than any of her group. SIX-WAY COOKIES one and one-third cups (15 oz can) Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk one-half cup peanut butter Any one of the 6 ingredients listed helow: (1) 2 cups raisins (2) 2 cups corn flakes (3) 3 cups shredded coconut (4) 3" cups bran flakes (5) 1 cup chopped nut meats {6) 2 cups chopped dates f 1 Mix Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk, peanut butter, and any one of the six ingredients listed above. Drop by teaspoonfuls on_ greased baking sheet. Bake in moderately hot oven (375 degrees F.) or 12 minutes or until brown. Remove from pan at once.
