Mr. Tweedie, manager of the Superior Life, was elected temporary chairman of the As~soviation. Mrs. Marion Bowen, Mrs. A. R. Robinson, Mr..E. C. Robinson and Mr. Johnson were elected by the body to write the constitution and by-laws ~~All of the three companies named above are preparing for ~a Super Big week May 12, 1947, which is the beginning of National - Negro Insurance Week. The slogan for the drive was @iven to the group by Mrs. M. Debutantes - Fashion Revue The Debutantes, a group of talented young ladies, presented an appreciable audience Sunday afternoon at the YWCA. The club express their many thanks to the many patrons who contributed to make the affair an overwhelming success, and also to Mrs. W. W. Davis and Mr. end Mrs. John Powell whose names did not appear on the patron list. Models appearing in the Fashion Revue were Elaine and Lois McCombs, Mary C:ark, Jeanette Jackson, GS Wright, Mary Lee Walker, Shirley. Walker, Consulla and Della Mae Powell, Beatrice Cox, Juanita Mills, Esther. Wells, Clayta Dent, Jackie Nelson and Alberta Buckner. FLINT GOLF CLUB The Flint Amateur golf club held their monthly meeting Sunday at the Community Aidettes Club Room, where plans were, discussed for the coming season. The Golf Club also made a resolution to seek ways and means of affiliating the Flint Golf Club with the National Negro Golf Association. Leona Hackette, Alberta Harris, ' ican Bowling congress from holding its 1947.annual:meet here or at the New York State Fair coliseum is underfoot, unless the ABC changes its antiNegro membership rules from ~white males only~ to ~males only.~ Backing a resolution adopted last week by the Progressive Citizens of America that called for an immediate change in the ABC~s jim crow membership regulations, local white and Negro citizens appealed to both Gov. Thomas E. Dewey.and the mayor, who has already extended an invitation to the ABC Jim-Crow Flares Around Gov. Cova to hold its annual matches here this year. The appeal to Gov. Dewey was made on the theory he may permit the ABC to stage its matches at the New York State Fair coliseum, without requesting a change in its racial discriminatory membership code. C.~(ANP) ~A pistol-packing railroad conductor snuffed out the life last week~ of a Negro passenger aboard the Atlantic Coast Line passenger train No. 77. Law enforcement authorities;ordered C. A. James, of Rocky Mount, to the inquest of 25-yearold Hut Melvin, but permitted him to proceed on his train after shooting the Negro passenger to death. Witnesses, who. are slated to testify before Coroner J. Durwood Creech Monday, claim that James shet Melvin in self defense after being attacked with a knife, deputies said. The slaying occurred between here and Selma. Details as to why the passenger and conductor clashed may be brought out during the inquest.
