An aggressive Negro community second to none anywhere in the city or state. With agreeable architecture, tastefully landscaped, | well kept graunds-and the like; and a people living there sensitive to éverything that will be a detriment to that community; and willing to get out and vot2 for everything for manifenance of law and order and for the welfare of Flint as a whole. Cupies of the watrants were presented as evtence at the tr.ol. They were sworn out by Bigvers~ before the justice of peace at Conveis, charging Johnson with misdemeanor and Securing money. under false rretense. Johnsen testified that cn one occasion he, went to Conyers to visit relatives and tftok. him by cone of his barns and the sheriff turned up an3j locked him up. At the outset of the trial, the government prosecutors. said they intended to show that the defendant had the Negroes arrested by swearing out warrants before a justice uf peace, and -bailed them out to work on his farm. They ~ also explained that in swearing. out the warrants Biggers claimed the Negroes owed him a debt.. They claimed that in some cases there were no debts, while in others, money had ben advanced and was refused when the alleged peonage victims attempted to pay out. Hal Lindsey, chief defense counsel, said it was his intention to show that the Negroes were not compelled to work out of debt ahd pointed out that they were not under guard at night. He said he intended to show that the five Negroes who made the charges against Bighartds, were a biability, seldom worked and never paid their condition that on his way back, Biggers. Indiana Avenue, in self-defense.: In an interview with Mrs. Armour, the wife of the assaliant, told the Toledo Script reporter that she and her husband tried to enter the house but Shaw was standing in the door-way. She marraged to squeeze through and went tdward the kitchen. She then heard Shaw say to her husband: ~If you come in this door I will kill you,~ her husband said: ~Why can~t I come in, I pay rent here?~ Mr. Shaw, according to Mrs. Armour~s statement, then eased his hard from his pocket and came out with a revolver. I tried to warn my husband but by that time he too saw the revolver and fired on him. ~ Mrs. Armour said that Mr. Shaw came to them last spring and asked them if they would move to his home and take over things as he and his wife were moving to Oklahoma. She -and her husband consented to Mr. Shaw~s_ offer, pravidimg he would sell them the furniture. He sold the furniture to them at the price of $500.50, and then the Shaws moved to Oklahoma. Now I hope that Mr. Pearson prediction is correct, however, I am very doubtful about this prediction. ~Mr. Pearson is not true forecasts of things to come and is considered to be about 90 per cent correct in them, Mr. Pearson has. been foretasting the future from Washington for many years and, is one of the greatest. So rm} sure that we all hope and c iy that he is right this time. But reserving the right to make my qywn prediction in my own meek way. I predict that Sen. Bilbo will be seated in the senate next year. I base my prediction on this fact: that no Senator or Congressman like the idea of contesting the seating of a member who has been duly elected by the voters of his respective state or district. In this case Bilbo was elected by the citizens of Mississippi, therefore, no member of the Senate is likely to stick his neck out to.Junseat him..I. do~ expect the senate investigating committe to make some kind of an investigation of Bitbo concerning his much talked about mansion. It is reported that he built this home through some kind of a crooked deal. It is also reported that he received a car on this deal. Speaking of his car reminds me that he has wrecked it in the State of Arkansas and he is naw, in.a_ hospital. Well maybe we wont have to After Mr. Shaw~s return he seemed to become. very dis- | pleased about they seemed to not do anything to please him, and finally he asked them to move, so they began looking for, another place to rent, but were mot successful. Then Mr. Armour bought a home and was waiting for the family to move out, when this confusion came up between he and Mr. Shaw. ~ On Thursday night, November 14th, Mr. Shaw raised such a disturbance with them until the Armours said they left and went to spend the night with a neighbor. Mr. Armour also went to work from the neighbors home. During the day Shaw was said to have been going around telling various neighbors of his intentions to kill Armvuur. When Armour returned from work ard] he and his wife thinking that perhaps Shaws angry spe'l was over, and trying to seek admittance to the house to see about their velongings, the tragic shOoitng tdok place., Mr. eo ore then called ihe police an@ gave himself u~ immediately. | something and; worry about the seating of him. |I hope not anyway. The Senate investigating committee is héeaded by Senator Ellende: (D) of Louisiana, so you cannot ~expect much of an investigatiorr. -MEMORY We Know That~ The lasi fleeting glan pression.
