The auditorium was crowded to standing room, and many out-of-town uests came to see the latest styles fashioned by fashionable egies. The SWINGING STRINGS furnished the music and <S. PEGGY YOUNG was commentator. Everyone really,enjoyed the affair and the unique part about it was that each model wore clothes from her or his own personal wardrobes. ~DORIS JAMES, ATHOL TAYLOR, DOROTHY HILL and a quartet from the idettes made up the program during the intermissions. ' Sunday, Nov. 3 will bring our own MRS. ROSA L. KIMP, a dramatic reader to the YWCA in a recital. This is something all Flintites are looking forward to and we are certainly So we shall see you then. Cn Sunday evening the younger set held a get- -together at the Flora Lea Lounge. ~The lounge was really jumping, we must say. A few of the group who were having such a gay time were: BUTCH STONE from Los Angeles, LUTHER MORA, JAMES FOSTER. and JOHN ACE, all of St. Louis, and JERRY JACKSON, ESTELLE HILL, HENDRIS and JOREATHAT VAN ZANDT, ROBERT TUCKER, RAMONA and PEGGY HOBSON, LUCILLE and ALBERTA SMITH, and from Porjiac were: GEORGE RUSH, MELVIN WOMACH, CLEVELAND SIMPSON, and. EDDIE WOMACH. Also present were: RICHARD HARRIS, BILL JACKSON, WARREN WARDELL, DOROTHY HILL, PETE WICKWARE, EH. B. and THECDORE DICKSON, QUINTAN GARLAND, JEAN ADAMS, ELLEN JANE WILLIAMS, HOWARD BANN:STER, MAVIS SMITH, JAMES BUCKNER, ANNALEA RAYMOND, and ME. ~ ~ DELORES McGRUDER becames MRS. RALPH WALTERS en Oct. 5. in Toledo, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. WALTERS will reside on Michigan Avenue. MR. and MRS. J: H. BARTON of Chicago, IIl., spent two weeks recently as the guests of MR. and MRS. J. A. WIL-|~ LIAMS, on Baliimore. While here they were guests at a buffet dinner. MR. and MRS. ED EAGLE, MR. and MRS. OLIVER |: _KENDELL, and MRS. RICHARD HINES were among the guests, spresent. MARY LOU ROQUEMORE became the bride of CHRISTCPHER LEE on Oct. 19, in Toledo, Ohio. They: honeymooned in Galipolis, Otio and also visited friends and the parents of the groom. They will reside at 2045 Crocker Avenue.; SHED HUDSPETH of Easy Street, spent the weekend in Detroit and-Canada, visiting a cousin and friends.. MRS. RUTH SKIPPER and daughter, GAYNELL, and RUBY WELLS, and EVELYN ANDERSON spent the weekend in Detroit. While there. MRS. SKIPPER and MRS. WELLS took: in the night life of the big city. They report having a fine time. Lena the Tyena, Gravel Gertie, and all of the other weird characters were on the Joose- at the big Halloween dance which was held at the Royal Gardens Club. i[t was really loads of fun, with a~ barrel load of prizes given away. Coming up soon, Nov. 16 to be exact, is the dance given by the Blue Star Girls at the Armory on Lew~s Street. - Gene Seals will give out with the music and is really for a worthy cause. So when one of the girls approach you, be sure to get your ticket. - MiSS ETHEL CLARK gave a most delightful reception for her sister. MRS. ROBERT SEAY at the home of MRS. FANNIE CLARK of Florida Avenue. The newlyweds, MR. and MRS. ROBERT SEAY,. were married on Sept. 25 in To ledo, Ohio. CLUBS The~ Young Sportsman Club held it~s first party at the Clifford St. Center on, Saturday evening. All had a \wondartul time, It was well attended by -North and South Side younger set. They promise to have more events im the near future. The Commando Club gave a party at the FICC on Thursday afternoon for the children. Over fifty youngsters attended. It is well to see the Commandos doing such a fine job. Apples, candy, pop corn, cake, and: cider were on hand for all. The NAACP Youth Council had a membership drive program on Tu2sday <~vening - at the FICC. The guest speakers were Dr. J. L. Leach, State President of the NAACP talked on ~Negro Youth and the State ~Conference.~ Mr. F. J. Manley, assistant Superintendent of the Flint Public Schools talked on Negro Youth Recreation in Flint.~ Mr. J. D: Governor, presidznt of the NAACP gave the introduction. Miss~ Alice E. Moore gave a solo, Miss Juanita Baxter, vice chairman, presided. A very nice group-attended, al, though they would lik2 as many as possible to join the Youth Council to try and better the conditions of Flint Youth. The next meeting will be held on November 5 at the Piorreer Hall. CLIFFORD STREET CENTER OPENS Flint, Mich., Oct. 27th. 1946~ The Clifford St. Center, under the divectiom of Mrs. E. C. Robinson, was officially opened Sunday, Ogtober_ 27th. The Center will be available for clubs or Oth?r organizations desiring to use its facilities. HITTING! THE NIGHT SPOTS aia ati Being mo dance at the Royal Gardins on Sunday night, all of the Clubs were packed. S Reyal Gardens had a _ very thin crowd when the Skyliners had their dance. Most of the younger sit attended the dance at the Clifford St. Center givert by the Sportsmen Club, dancing to the music of the Juke Box. The Flora Lea Lounge was the place to go on Sunday with all of the younger set having a very gay time, dancing and eating those delicious hamburgers.. Mores and more people are! Chicken]: finding Pickette~s Shack, otherwise known as the house of blue lights, the place to go. Hera you can have a fin? time just on the edge of town. This is an ideal spot to bring =~ ~and visitors. Atts Hold Cake Raffle Thé new and famous Meta He ta, Atts gave a Cake Raffle Sutday, October 27th at the Clifford St. Center. The lucky numb2r was held by Dee Spencer holding number 41, The cake was baked by Mrs. Travis. It -was a ten inch white cake, with pink, green and yellow decorations. Everyone agre:d it was very beautiful. The Club members joined Mr. Spencer in eat, ing the cake. Sinc2 the odds were 6~to 1, he was naturally defeated and so ice cream and cake~ were enjoy:d by those ~present. ~Tuesday night, Home Makers No. land No. 1. will have~ tir Wednesday lowe~en Masquerade Dance for the older young p2ople of the community. M. C. A. Guest models were Mrs. Ruby Beck, Mrs. Ola Hugh's, Miss Alberta Buckner, Conrre Childress, Ruth Clemons, Samuel McClarin, James Matthews Loma Miller, Bobby Owens, Je Ann Owens, Miss Elsie Pratt, Thomas Roqu:more, Hendris Van Zandt, Juretha Van Zandt, Armenter White, Cecoria Wiskware, Sharon Williams and Ker. en Williams. Guest Commentator was Mrs. John F. Young, and ushers were Lawrince Murdock and Kent Buckner. Music was furnished by the Swinging Strings. Hatrison McGee played two piano selections entitled Twinkle Tc2s and the Lark Song. Sportsw2ar, casual wear, coa~s, hats, lounging outfits, and evening wear were modeled, Doris James, Dorothy Hill and Johnelle Kefszy sang solos and a. reading was giv2n by | Athol Taylor. The Community Aidette Quartett also sang two solos. Among two hundred people attended the affair which turned out to be the best fashion show ever given in Flint. The show~. committee was Gladys Murdock, Beulah Roman and Ruth Buckner, Your Shopping Center The Smith and Lattimore Department Store has enlarged their. place of business. They ar2 now ready to give you better service and a bigger variety of. the things you and your family need. There will be new items such as wristwatches, men~s caps, engagement rings, and watch bands for men and women. There will also be some lovely selections in ladies compacts. Any and all. donations will be received by Mr. Clif, ford Fielder, president of* the FICC, Mr. John Russell, director or at the office of Mr. John Ryder at Oak Grove and- said Odell Broadway. FATHER~S CLUB OF vice The Father~s Club gav2 their party at the FICC on October 24. The children had a-~ swell time, with boxing, card playing, reading, etc. The evenimg was concluded with cider and cake. JR. NAACP HOLDS MEETING.
