FLINT, Mich., Nov. 2, 146~ Mr. Georg? Friley, candidate for Third Ward Commissioner. took | time out to lash out at his crit vies. Mr. Friley stated: ~T am not a Communist, never have been and my record stands as an open book for amyone interested to examine.~ This curt reply came as an answer to the many reports that are being circulated, by spurious persons, which is nothing more than a smear campaign. It is only natural that wher Mr. Friley filed as a candidate for commissioner from the Third Ward that people of alf walks in life, all social stratas and those embracing: all kinds of Third Ward Coliiesiesianien~ $ Candidate Gets Critics Straightened Out with Public Statement political _ beliefs and ideologies would attempt to sail undér his banner. Mr. Friley, observed all of the ethics and decorum known to the game. He was well advised and he followed the advice that he got. He could not refise to represent anyone liv-| ing in the Ward; and since there are many Communist -in this Ward, he could rot tell them that if he is elected he would refuse to be their representative. If: he did it would be the first time anyone here, to our knowledge, resorted to such action. It is the duty of all p2ople living in this Ward to vote for the man who merits their every respect and consideration. Neither~ heredity, nor invironment, nor any Obstacles super imposed by man can keep you from marching straight to success, provided you are guided by a firm driving determination and have rformal health and intelligence. Determination is the battery that commands every road of life. It is armor against which the missiles of adversity rattle harmlessly. Determination has the properties of a powrful acid; all obstacles melt before it. Conversely, lack of will power is the readiest weapon in the arsenal of failure., The most hopeless proposition in the world is the fellow who thinks that success is a -door through which he will sometime stumble if he roams around long enough alone. Some men expect ravens to feed them, the cruis> of oil to remain enhaustible, the fish to come right up over the side of the boat at meal time. They believe that life is a series of mir, acles. They loaf about and trust in their lucky stars, and boldly owes them a living. As a matter of fact, the world owes a man nothing that he does not earn. In this life a man gets about what he is worth, and he renders an equivalent for what is given him. There is no such thing as inactive Success. The citizens ~of 3rd ward have determined that something must be dorfe. To.in anywise realize their aims it was found necessary to make a different approach to this -perplexing problem. It was unanimously agreed by all concerned that to attairf any degree of suc, cess there must be a colored man as commissioner from the 3rd Ward. Ir selecting George Friley there could not possibly b2 a better choice from any standpoint. Though Mr. Friley has a multitude of affairs he favorably responded to being drafted. It should be borne in mind that just any man could fiot meet the requirements of ~the people of the ward.
