It was noticeable at the last dance that the personnel, janitor of the IMA did not even take the trouble to clean the hall up. The dance was scheduled for | and began at 1:45 and regardless of starting time, they quit at 5 sharp. It szems that we Negroes get the short end of the deal at every interval. We pay double the price of the whites and double the size of the whites. This is not right anyway. Things will always be this way until some Negro with money will build a place for recreation. The Miami Chicken Shack held the second spotlight in that they had Cootie Williams as guest of konor. Music for the affaif was furnished by Gene Seals and his swing unit. The Royal Gardens jumped like mad with Chuck Carter and his band. They really had a fine time with many excellent jitterbugs there to participate in the spotlight. Field~s Barbecue had a large crowd before and after the dance and were able to serve chicken and meat in spite of the meat shortage. The Golden Leaf Club will always be great. Many old faces are appearing ~ again, which makes the evening more entoyable. Flora Lea Lounge was the scene of many before- and after-dinner parties. Pickett~s was fiilled with the younger set which are always | seén having a_grand time due to Mr. Pickett~s hospitality. Over 4,000 music lovers turned out in their best bib and tuckers to dsiice and meet old friends. Lansing turned out in full force. Among those seen enjoying themselves were: HAROLDINE NICHOLS, being escorted by KENISAW FULILOVE and SHIRLEY WATKINS, BOYD LEWIS, BiLL LETTS, RALPH RIDDLE, CHARLENE JEFFERIES, DAVID YORE, SHIRLEY WATKINS, all from Lansing; JAMES and BILL YOUNG of Pontiac; Also present were: TOMMY BEAUCHAMP and WELDCN CALDWELL also from Lansing.: DCNALD COATES and CEORIA WICKWARE were so very happy at the dance because we understand that they were married Saturday evening. Shall have more details about this popular couple for the next edition. We also~ welcomed back to Flint for a brief visit, HURMIE and ROBERT THORNE. They returned to their new home in Ann Arbor, Mich. MRS. ADA PAYNE WASHINGTON is in our midst agein. She comes back home from New Jersey with her sister, JEAN PAYNE. MR. WASHINGTON is expected to join his wife soon. _"T will be good to <ee them in our circles again, because they were a source of gay parties. So, welcome home. Also with us, for a few remaining days, is handsome, CAPTAiN JAMES MURGESON. He leaves Friday to attend an officer's training school in the East, and will certainly be missed, for his pleasing personality. The Flint Musicians, who really have some grand hearts, Mrs. Parker, who is tht mother of | that -great tenor sax man, James Parker, and Earnest Parker. A surprise shower.was given in honor of MRS. ALFRED REEVES last Sunday afternoon by MRS. EDWARD WOODS at the latter's home at 1313 Idaho: The evening was spent in playing games and enjoying the tasty refreshments. Happy birthday to little LARRY BROWN of Easy Street, who celebrated his eighth birthday: last Sunday with the aid of 20 or more of his friends. The little people enieyed 3 ice cream, cake and bought Mr, Brown many gifts. JOYCE POINTER, prominading with TUNO REEVES. Also, | wired a beautiful basket of flowers to Pontiac for the funeral of | " CREEPER Boy, we strictly covered the mad brawl at the IMA. It was really rightous and the dirt that we uncovered is also righ!eous. B.V., why did you stand the slavboys up on-that Chicago trip last weekend? A.D* is home and seen with] B.R. There is a lot of inside information that no one is tell!ing. M.J. was playing hard at the dance. No betetr for you, if you can keep up with it. What young play boy got slapped at the dance by some untouth chick? Tough luek, W.P.: D.H. had better check up on herself. She is fooling in a lot of bad terr~tory. B.M., you looked so fine at the dance that we had to stop and watch you. You are really great... youthink, ~ Cc. +. the feminine play ground was seen at the dance with a to big hat and a too little hair cut. Theré is none ike him with a sense of humor. Why is it that E.T. thinks she can get H.R. if she wishes? I don~t think your wishes can come ~rue. It seems as though there is still a man shortage because instead of the boys calling on those two supposedly glamor girl sisters, E.T. and L.T., they have been calling on them. So if you are a lone wolf, you had better, play your'cards.. You might get a date for Sonny's From Topeka, Kans., comes word that MR. CHARLES NEELY is having a very wonderful time and plans on stay:ng a month. Girls, have you met handsome SHED HUDSPETH? He is the nephew of MR. and MRS. RAWLS of Easy Street, and is the possessor of a beautiful smile and charming personality. He plans to stay here indefinitely. | MR. EZRA: BROADNAX of Fay Street, who has been ill for the last few weeks in Hurley. Hospital is now home and improving steadily which, of course, is great news to us all. The RUDOLPH SCOTT and JOSIE JOHNSON recital at the FICC was a great success. Many good people turned out to add their applause to this very fine affa~y and all look forward to hearing more about this duo. We take off our hat to JAMES THRASHER... He has one of the most charming girl friends that we have geen for some time. At present he is withholding her name, and, of course, we ~don~t blame him. MR. and Mrs. ANGUS MASHAW of Dewey Street are Phone 4-6462 entertaining this week for MR. WILLIAM MASHAW who is visiting here from Pittsburgh, ~Pa. Mr.. William Mashaw is the father of Mr. Angus Mashaw. Going past the COMMUNITY ADDETTES Club room, the other evening, we chanced to hear the words, Style Show, fhrough the door. Later questioning them, we understand that they are planning a gala hae show to take place at the end of the month. If it measures up to the old standards, it will be a great affair and they promise that it will. FIFTH ANNIVERSARY: Congratulations are in aire for MR. and MRS. RICHARD MONTGOMERY of Oregon Street. E.B., don~t you think that you were slightly charged at the dance? V.T. and P.H. looked like queens at the dance. Approaching P.H., one must wear an ashestoe suit, sun glasses, and throw away your Esquire magazine. She has evzrything. V.T. isn't so bad on looks, either, is she S.W? What's to it? We saw D.W. and S.J. hugging each other. it really had me puzzled at the time, but strange things happen every day. E.C. seems to have snagged herself a fine man. Don't blame you. Stick with it. Wonder why they went off ard left their sister? My! D.W.., if you think that you are fine, kindly look in the mirror again. You are not. lf color is what strikes you, throw it out of your mind. Everything else over balances it. Shame on E.J.W. for the profanity which was heard coming from her lips at the dance Perhaps you kad a right to it, but it really was audacious: J.V.Z. on the pikes hand is using darling and sweetie pie. Could it be for B.T? She was seen quite a bit with H.F. Some day the dawn will break. through. |We hope. Mr. Bogd will soon appear.
