May 13, 1946~ Special to APNS ~ An official of the Community Civics League, the organization that is unanimously supporting the candidacy of Mr. George Friley for commissioner from the third ward informed a Spokesman representative that the Rev, W. A, Vaughn is still in the 3rd Ward Commission race, This s one of tiie worst double crosses that was ever perpetrated in this community, The Rev. Mr. Vaughn ~was glowing in praise of Mr, Friley when he express ~ed himeclf as being willing to withdraw from the race in favor of the Committee~s candidate. A DIFFERENT STORY NOW The Rev. Mr. Vaughn alleges that he is being drafved by the Aracrican Legion and _ white frietids. H~ was not willing to name any of -his white friends and since many veterans ate members of the Community civ ics league it is wondered how he can make a decent showing against: the entire Third Ward. -Mr. Vaughn stated that he was being sponsored by -the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, Ths proved to be: erreneows; atthe Rev..is not even a member of the Alliance. ~~ A TOOL The whole story is that Mr. Vaughn is being used as a tool by cxafty persons who do not have the interest of the community at heart. We. shall make every effort to find out who the white people are who are supporting his candidacy. We will send their names to Ripley ~Believe. It or Not,~ for it is incredible that any white people would look to a man for leadership who has not shown any vestige of leadership, After more than 25 years the Rev,. Mr. Vaughn has not been able to establish a church capable of taking care of himself or its program, It is time for the citizenry of Flint and the ethical ministers to repudiate Vauhn and everything that he stands: for, There was a time fifty years ago in the South when this type of leadership would have been. hailed by the white people as the real thing. But this is a difverent age, a dfferent time and a vastly different siiuation, This t3 an age when all men should stand fcr the manliness that the age demands. Everyone should have some investments in real character and that includes the Rev, Mr. Vaughn, Montreal~ Signs Another Negro Ball Player Roy Partlow, Colored pitcher, who hails from Philodelphio, was signed Tuesday by Montreal of the International.
