> SATURDAY, MAY 11, 1946 HE FLINT SPOKESMAN WITH ISOLA THE MTST FASCINATING FASHION SHOW we've seen in years was that given last Sunday aftérnoon during cocktail time (two 'til five) by the Zonta~Club at the famous Latin Juarter night spit. Two sets of stars which reachel to the ceiling were the center of attraction and lovely models. in lovely clothes walked gracefully downthem. Lingerie, lounging pajamas, play clothes, street wear, cocktail dresses, su ts, fuds and evening clothes were shown by the models who in-' cluded Sue Lewis, Anne Greer, Dorothy Grimes, Edna Gools by, Fannie Bulkley, Billie Lawhorne, Jeanne Hill, Juanita Young, Loretta Wilburn, Ruth Moore, Amma Lundy, Robbie Belcher, Dorothy Taylor, Sarah Slater, who made her own very smart wardrobe; Thelma Lee, who fascinates us with her own designs; Grace Sadler, Cora Keller, Maxine Brown, Maxine Frank, Helen Williams, Ruth Moore, handsome Clearance Brown, who showed a sport suit and formal wear; Mable Howard, Elaine Collymore, Cora Keller, Martha Minion, and Dorothy Kirkwood... Pupils of ii School of Dancing, Mary A. Bailer, Mary Tisdale and Cora V. Chism, the club soloist, gave numbers between the acts. The prize winners were: Maxine Franks, first; Thelma Lee, second, and eanne Hill, third. Judges were: Mrs. Rosa Gragg, Mr. Edward Swann, Mrs. M. A. Purdy and! Miss Ethelyn Scola. The president of the club, Helen Wi!son, was the commentator and made a very pretty speech about each model as she ~ame on the softly lighted stage. Other members are Lessie Davis, Joyce Campbell, Edette Lawson, Helen Rushing, Sara S later, Lucille Foster, Sarah Freemont, Minnie Lacey, Helen Pitts, Phyllis Brown, Madeline Craig and Mary Elizabeth Barnes.:: el After we overcame our awe at view ing the beautiful Latin Quarter, which made us think of Hol-~ lywocd movie sets with its pink padded walls, soft lights and soft carpeting, we saw Valma Branham, Anna Simpson, Gladys Mills, Mable Haile, Bernice Hoagland, Beatrice Pres ton, Mrs. J. P. Watkins, Louise Lane, LaClaire Knox; my youngster, Betty Ann, was thrilled at being in h er first night club ( she sipped a ~coke~ and acted very grownup), Mr. and Mrs. Watson, Hazel Burnham. Dr. Catchings, Dr. and Mrs. Bunlrant, Atty. and Mrs. Harold Bledsoe, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Diegs, Mr. O'Dell Bradley, Mrs. Jeannetta Brown and scores of others who enjoyed the show. ~9 8 ~ ward ard Alive O'Dell are seriously considering mov7 ~ *. Bea has been a favorite friend of ours fora number of years and we. know that she is being enthusiasticallv received by the audiences. * e % The Committee for the Benefit of Parkside Hospital gave a bridge luncheon last Saturday afternoon at the Mount Vernon Recreation Center. Lovely prizes were given and a dainty luncheon served. Dean Jackson, Louise Lans and Minnie Manning were members of the committee who made the af fair possible.: ee 8 Mrs. M. L. Gill, popular club Woman, is spending a week in Chicago. Boys secretary of the Spring St. YMCA was guest speaker with his chosen subject,.~New Horizons.~~ Mr. ~Webb said that the greatest fact for returning veterans and youths today is ~to be informed.~ He declared that the youths of today must also be inventive and then drew attention to the atomic bomb power as a peace power to heat homes. He announced that along with inventiveness persons must have CLUB NEWS On Thursday evening, April 25, the West Side Soci lub met at the home of Mrs. Flossie Foster, 5700 Thirtieth Street. The meeting was en joyed by the members and guests present. As it was social night, the hostess served a delicious chicken dinner with dressing, cranberry sauce, candied sweet potatoes, buttered green beans, spring salad, hot rolls and soft drinks.
