Brewn saved two small boys from drowning as they floundéred desperately in eight feet of water. The boys are Richard Bibbs, 1}j,. and Charles Williams, 12. The minister and the boys were taken to General Hospital where the were treated and released. ~The accident occurred in the rnoon when the two boys and wil liam~s brother Howard, 10, ptt that his auibanioi might go under, at any moment, ~the younger Williams ran to their assistance and tried to pull his brother out of the water, but fowhd it impossible to keep his (Charles~) head above the level of the ice. Then the youger Williams ran to a coal company yard and yelled: ~Come.quick, come -quick my. brother is drowning.~ Rev. Brown, who had just driven. into the coal company yard, jumped a fence and ran to the canal. Adam Clayton Powell to extend to other southern cities his probe of discrimination in the Dallas office of the United States Employment Service. The New York Congressman, who heads the House Education| and Labor Committee, ordered investigation of the. Dallas office after Clarence Laws, NAACP southwest regional secretary, charged discrimination in.testimony before a subcommittee ~hearing in Washington. recently. In. the Southwest, Mr.. Powell said he would ask Congress to cut off federal funds for employment services in Texas, if the NAACP charges were sustained by his investigation. The compaint, filed Jan. 18 in the Federal District Court at Savannah, asked for a permanent - injunction enjoining the ~Board of Public Instruction of Chatham County, Ga. (Savannah), members and: the Superintendent of Schools of Chatham County, from continuing their policy, practice, custom and usage of operating a compulsory biracial school~ system.~ The suit was filed on behalf of thirty-six Negro children who now attend segregated public schools in Savannah.
