U-M Nine For Season ANN ARBOR, Mich. ~ Almost squad outdoor workouts practically every day, is a major reason for optimism in the Wolverine camp this spring. ~We definitely are iin better we were a year ago,~ said Coach Don Lund. ~Last year we had no chance to work outdoors before going~ to Arizona and opening an ll-game schedule. This early start should help us a great deal: The Wolverine coach also has pitching,staffeatcengthened with a pair of'igtreng ~sophomores in action. Six hurlers -have~ been rounding into form in a way that bodes ~well for the Wolverines. Mike Joyce, a tall husky righthander frgom Royal Oak, and Fritz Fisher, a smart-looking southpaw from Adrian, are among chief reasons for Lund~s enthusiasm. This pair of sophomores, coupled with veterans John Keer, Bob Marcereau and Jon Brefeld, and anether newcomer, Franz Neubrecht of Berkley, all are throwing. well. Right-hander Denny McGinn, tall righthanded veteran, also may be ready in time, although..a heavy- scholastic load has cut down his practice time. To handle the pitching staff, Lund -has- Captain Dick Syring and newcomer Bill Freehan avail able for catching duty. The latter, however, probably will handle first base part of the time.
