Many people are concerned about the way ~Americans celebrate Christmas.In a recent issue of a popular maga ~gine theré was an article entitled, ~Are We Killing Christ mas?~ The writer marshals his facts to. prove that we are. Many of us, however, disagree with him. We realize there is much truth in his statements At Christmas we celebrate the birthday of Christ. This is the days high purpose. Too often, however, Christ is. left on the edges of our thinking, planning and giving. As this writer stated, it is possible to carry on the seasons~ celebration with great gaiety, yet miss Christmas. altogether.: We agree with him that Christmas is being over-commercialized; that the dollar sign is-on it; that it is being paganized in many areas of our American life. Many go through the Christmas season without thinking of the glorious truth for which Christmas stands. Their, minds are occupied only with the materials aspect of ee The writer of the article neglects to tell of, the part -lthe Church -has played through the centuries ~in keeping _|+Christ in Christmas..
