The Social Whirl Quite a week end wasn~t it? Despite the rain, recession, lay-offs et al, came the Fourth of July and we still managed to have barbeque on every grill. Many who had planned out of town.picnics, found when the rains came, that they could have just as good~ a time in their own backyards. As we drove down Lapeer street, for example, sounds of fun and laughter could be heard from 1807, 1712 and 1717. The Sam Williams were hosts to the Fred Garretts, Henry Osburns, Tommy Mitchels, Lean Williams, Ray Davises and their respective offspring. A-few of those making merry at the James Clarks were the.Don Colemans, Joe Hills and Mendell Vaughns. The Prentis James helped welcome home Teddy Hill from the Army and Dorothy Hill visiting here from. New York City.; * * % The many friends of Irma Williams were delighted to have her in Flint if only for a day. She and her husband, H. D. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Ivory Thomas and children, Mrs. William Fraction, Mrs. Lucile McCormick, the Rev. and Mrs. Thomas Courts. Barbeque and all that " goes with it was served. The evening was pleasantly spent ~and enjoyed by all. Mrs. Evans Davis was hostess to her ~sister, Mrs. Mabel Taylor and family of Philadelphia who were here for the week end. Mrs. Taylor is also the sister~of Lincoln Ward of 12th street. -Mrs. Abner Davis has returned via Capitol Airlines from a ten day trip to New York where she visited her sister and brother-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. H H. Thorne. * The home of Mrs. Odell Broadway of 743 E. Myrtle street was a scene of beauty when she entertained friends on Tuesday honoring Mr. and Mrs. Noah Griffin of San Francisco, California. Mrs. Griffin will be known by friends as Theressa Ballou, the daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Thomas Ballou. The home was beautifully decorated throughout with cut - flowers from the hostess~ own flower garden. A very palatable luncheon was served.
