Btipes, Jr., announced | that he will be a candidate for | the office~ of Prosecutifis Attorney at the August 5th primary election om the Republican ticket. | Mr. Stipes is a life long -resident of Genesee County. He is a with the problem because. he is | Seaaidar with and understands the problems which face today~s /-youth. i Mr. Stipes, the son of a well |known criminal attorney, comes ~from a family of lawyers. He was récently elected by the Genesee | ~County Bar Association to its Board of Directors, a position he will, fill for two years. He is also graduate of Flint Central High i, member of the State Bar of School and attended Flint Junior College.. At the age of 23 he graduated | from Washington and Lee Uni- | versity Law School at Lexington. | Virginia. | Mr. Stipes served in the United | States Navy, and while a member of that branch of the service was the attorney who represented.-the U. S. S. Summersworth at a Naval Formal Board ef Investigation which was conducted last year to investigate the reasons and responsibilities, if any, for the herrible explosion cf an unavthorized bomb which killed or injured ten naval personnel. While in the Naval service, Mr. | St'pes handled of counseller over 1,000 criminal and civil cases. Mr. Stises is also a graduate of the U.S. Naval Justice School and attended the U. S. Army _course of instruction in Military law. He is one of the few who have atiended both courses of instruction. Mr. Stipes stated ~that he intended to enforce the criminal luws cf the state of Michigan in an absolutely non-partisan man; ner without regard to pers:onali~ties and will be influenced onlv hy the general welfare of all of the citizens of Genesee County. He indicated that he believes one of the. most serious law enforcement problems in our ~country today is the juvenile crime situation and that he feels the present.Prosecutor failed to give sufficient attention.,to this ever oere danger.
