Many of our southern states have accepted integration while others are still making every stand to continue segregation. There is much to be thankful for when the most in educational opportunities are offered to alll on an equal basis, ~s our duty lies in encouraging youth to take ~e ~OF ~it. * * 2 ot ~ Mr. and Mrs. David Cundiff were hosts to bag guests in their home on Maines Street Sunday evening. Those attending and remaining to socialize were: Mr. and Mrs. Mannon Waterson, Saginaw; Mrs. Jimmie Mae Bailey ~and David Edwards. The Cundiff~s hospitality was immensely enjoyed. ~| +.~<% | Gloria and Jim Greene are the proud parents. of a bouncing baby boy who weighed in Tuesday, September 3, at 6 Ibs., 13 ozs. Little Jimmy E. ~Greene Was born at Hurley Hospital. The family resides iat 2505 St, John Street. Jim Greene Jr., is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo A. Greene of McPhail Street. * * * Arthur Braggs~ ~Idlewild Revue,~ with a cast of 30 will open Friday at the Flame Show Bar. Personalities such as Della Reese; who appeared last Sunday on the Ed Sullivan Show, T-Bone Walker, the White Hall Dancers and many others. will appear. * BENEFIT FOR. HAROLD HAYDEN AT THE BAMBOO The benefit for Harold Havden at the Bamboo Cocktail Lounge last Mondav evening turned ost to be a great suc~e~ess. The emplovees donated their time for this worthy cause. The Evans Bradshaw Trio entertained the crowd beautifully. Phil Shahé@en, the proprietor, will make the donation Saturday hight. Phil informed us that some of ~Monday night's business proceeds from the Harold benefit will also be donated. We are verv happy to see Harold well ~and hack on the job., 8 THE MADDRIES ENTERTAIN - Mr, and Mrs. Robert Maddrie were host Saturday to-a group of. teachers at a Back-to~School party in their lovely home on Russell St. The house was beautifully decorated for the occasion and Mrs. Maddrie was a perfect hostess for the affair. The guests were served chicken salad, party biscuits, waffles, celery sticks with cheese, spiced peaches, delishes and a variety of refreshments: Among the many guests on-hand enjoying the festivities were: the hostess~ mother, Mrs. soos Coleman ~from.Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Anar Ste Baer Green, Miss Gwen, Eliott, Jathes, Morgan; Paut: Bt Setersteten Nash, Mr.-and Mrs, Boyce Buckner, Mt. arid~ Mrs. Billy Jean Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Scott, and Mrs. Wilma Woodall of the Chicago De' ferider. It certainly was the nicest to say the least. * * se ~ BRANCH FAMILY REUNION AT SCENIC-VIEW The first time in about eight years the complete Branch - family was together, with the excepfion of Joseph B. Branch, ~-the father. Present were: Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Branch, Mr. and_ Mrs. Louis Branch, Mrs. Ronald Cooley and son, LawFéfice, Mrs. Marion M. Branch, and J. Malcolm Branch who f ig~ on the Advertising and Public Relations staff of the ronze Reporter. Guest was Mr. Danny-Iron. After the. picnic-the family continued activity at Wildwood Park. It - Was reported that everyone had an enjoyable time. + The Eight Pals Bridge Cub eluted Tuesday from a -week~s vacation in Idlewild. Each year in addition to the: charitable, cjvic and social work of the group, the members _during the month of August when the club is not function~ing, take their vacations together. Each reported a marvelous time in their lake front cottage which offered all kinds of amusement for their families and themselves. Their activities included horseback riding, roller skating, boating, swimming, and enjoying the delightful: ertertainment at the Fiesta 00m and Flamingo. * * The Foxes Club Fancy Pants Bal will be held Saturday, Sept...14, 9'n.m. until 1 a.m. at the Flint Armory, on Lewis St. Everyone is ~wetcome.
