Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.~~Prov. 31:10, 35,; The theme, ~Crusading for, Christ~ used for the Third Baptist ~Women in Action Program,~ Sunday, Feb. 24th, 3:30 p.m., was expressed in the above Proverb and the entire program| whichfwas a great inspiration to all who witnessed it. Mrs. Carrie Robinson was presented as mistress of ceremonies following a very spiritua] devotion conducted by Mrs, Hattie Dogans, Mrs, Josie Burton and Mrs. Anna B. Mcllwain. The program was on the way with the welcome address given by Mrs, Myrtle Canday. Special memorial services were conducted by Mrs. Bertha Hayes, making honorable mentions to those gone but not forgotten, because of their outstanding |the beautiful display of colarful contributions to humanity through e The Bowl of Beauty as demonstrated by Miss Juanita Thomas called to everyone~s attention the church altar: The used a flower to symbolize the beauty of such outstanding women in the hall of| fame as Marian An derson, Eleanor Roosevelt, Nan-| nie Helen Burroughs, and women of achievement in our local metrapolis. Other contributions to the elaborate program were selections by the Cleartone Singers, the Purpose of the program) by Mrs. Annie Germain, a solo by Miss Elsinia Laster, Through the Press, by Miss Martha Lee, and selections by Mt. Carmel Senior Choir. The Choralaires, a group of young people of Third Baptist, sponsors of the program, donned semi formal attire, and wore beautiful corsages. | They also rendered beautiful selections on the program. Food Scoop ~ Beef is down in price this week over last week. Pork continues upward in price as will as fryers & veal. Eggs although slightly higher, remain a good protein value. In produce, tomatoes, carrots and sweet corn are lower in price over last weeks prices. BEEF~Steaks are the features this week~Round, Sirloin, T-Bone, and Porterhouse are being featured by several of the food chains at 10-20c less than last week. PORK=~AIl pork products are slightly higher in price this week over last week. This price increase is due to lower live receipts and heavier demarid for pork. by the consumers. The better pork values are in the Boston Butt, rib-end loin roasts and hams. | POULTRY~After the past several weeks of very low prices, fryers have really jumped in price. Fryers ~are not as good a value this week as they have bcen.) The Aces Club of Pontiac gave a big dance at the Masonic Hall, Wesson at Lull street, in Pontiac. George Penny, president, and all' the members were on hand to welcome the many who at tended. There were many lovely ladies on the scene. Let me see now... Mrs. Rose Penny, Mrs. Muriel Harrison, Mrs. Dorothy Jones, Mrs. Mary Smith, Mrs. Jean Benion and the True Hearts Social Club, while Cash Roberts, James Holson, James Hodges and Willie Long were a few of the fellows. I did recognize a number of Flintites, including Freddie Nichols, Morris Gilbert and Nate Benson..... The Elks Club of Pontiac are in the process of raising a building fund. A dance and floor show which was held at the Townhall went over-nicely. Albert Munson and his staff did a great job as hosts. James Dembo, the. entertainment chairman, extends an ~invitation to his many friends in the Saginaw Valley to help make this building program a success. oe It proved to be quite a whirlwind weekend for the ' Cotillion Club, the Vogettes, Silver Slippers, the Marathon Club, the Mambo Club and the Twelve Step Brothers. The Cotillion Club played host to the others on last Friday night (Feb. 22), with Misses Mabel Smith and Lillian Horton graciously performing the duties of hostesses. Then on Saturday night (Feb. 23), Mr. and Mrs. Jones of Parkland treated the clubs to another gala night of fun. and feasting. @ * * * Knights Templar sponsored a musical program at the Rose of Sharon Hall last Sunday (Feb. 24). The concert was given to an audience of about 50 persons. Members of the organization who were responsible for the inception and continuity of the various aspects program were: Mrs. Martha Nunn, mistress of ceremonies; Mrs. Daniel Bell, musical. accompaniment; and Mr. Jesse Cobb, program chairman. The refreshments were very ably handled by Mr. T. W. McFall and Mr. James E. Harris, Mr. Lucius Fleming is Eminent Commander of the Knights Templar. * A surprise party was given Mr. and Mrs. Faye Neely | (Daughter Ruler) at the Elk~s Hall after the regular lodge meeting. Refreshments were served the surprised couple and the other members in attendance. f * * * ~* * The Amigos Club gave a matinee affair on Sunday, Feb. 24 at Michele~s. Furnishing the red hot music for those in attendance were: Clarence Peakes and his Caballeros from Michigan State University, and James Wheeler and his combo group, i * *~ ~* The regular monthly meeting of the Zeta Beta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was held in Saginaw on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Cambridge Building. Hostesses were Mrs. William Haithco, Mrs. John McAfee and Miss Evelyn Thomas. Mrs. J. Merrill Spencer presided. Highligtits of the meeting were: a report from the Constitution and By-Laws committee and election of delegates to the Regional Conference in April. The group also launched a project to send books and magazines to Liberia along with a subscription to an educational magazine, The meeting was largely attended and the members were served refreshments. The March meting will be held at the home of Mrs. Wrex Weaver Jr. Mrs. Herman Gibson will be the speaker. A large attendance is expected.: a i a ~ The city of Flint broke out in a veritable rash of cocktail parties and breakfasts given in connection with the Masquerade Ball given by the Zags last Saturday night. Those who hosted cocktail parties before the colorful event were: the Bert Hartmans on Churchill and Mrs. Charles Neely on Ninth. After the big event, revelers were treated to breakfasts by Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Williams, Mr. and Mrs. William Hoskins and the Arthur J. Edmunés, ine Howard.
