-. Page Six THE BRONZE REPORTER _ Saturday, March 17, 1956 500 Attend Hichtower Party. JOHN HIGHTOWER BEING REASSURED BY CO-WORKERS. Lt. - Rt. AL CHRISTNER, H. SPARLING, and ALBERT GOLDEN. Almost 500 of John Hightower~s friends and union brothers came out to hfs benefit party which was held Saturday, March 10 at the Buick Local 599 Union Hall. /The party was termed ~ a whopping * success~ by an enthused commit feeman. Music was furnished by) Evans Bradshaw and his band. There were refreshments of several. varieties. % Edgar Holt did a/splendid job of introducing Mr. and Mrs. John Hightower and the otner speakers. The speeches were not lengthy and not one tried to steal the spotlight. Mr. and Mrs. Hightower led the speeches by thanking everyone for their support and praised the aud ~ience for taking a stand in his be half, Al Christner, chairman of | the eleven man grievance board, is heading the fight.to have Mr. Hightower reinstated. He also spoke briefly in Hightower~s behalf. fhe affair was an example of] Democracy in action. Both white and: colored brethren were on hand. They pledged unity in the ~fight against any form of. racial discrimination. Christner, in an _ interview with this reporter, said, ~I do believe he (Hightower) will be reinstateéd. Never has Management lost such a case invoiving an employee versus a forman, however management has realized that the forman involved with Mr. High - tower is not a leader in the true sense of the word. He has been transferred and now only have two men ufder his jurisdiction. His next step will be a demotion unless he ~can see the light and realize that all men are human and are to be treated as such. A tasty dinner was served and Mrs. Johnson received several gifts. During the evening pictures were shown by Mrs. Opal Jones. An-enjoyable evening was had by all. present. | Mrs. Johnson was recently married to the socially prominent Gilbert H.
