Williams, Director, F.C.O. 122 E. 8th Street Flint, Michigan November 14, 1955 Dear Mr. Williams: The NAACP_ stands behind 43 years~ of service to and for tlie Negro. The NAACP has never ~sold the Negro down the river~ and never will. As your president of the Flint Branch of the NAACP. I respectfully request that you DO NOT call for a boycott of The McDonald Dairy Company. As your legal advisior, I recognize the organization~s rgiht to use the boycott on any business which discriminates in its hiring policy because of race, creed, color or religion. Mr. Williams, many interracial organjzations joined together to obtain a ~FEP law~. Racial issues, be a two edged sword, cuts both ways. We are gaining in our fight and do not want to unintentionally alienate. any such support. organization had the courage to come to the aid of one of our ladies on a question of honor. 1 ido urge you to reconsider any boycott action as McDonald Dairy has a record of at least attempting to move in the right direction. of discrimination and the dispute now involves two individuals. 1 have received many calls stating that MeDonald Dairy has contributed to Negroes churches. May | again suggest that we drop. the matter. The remaining question of interest to your organization may be HAVE YOU SEEN A NEGRO MILKMAN LATELY? However, we are becoming concerned with the possibilities of MsDonald Dairy hiring Negro milk-_ men. It is hoped, that in the interest of good-business and good public relations that they will, in {the not too distant future, surprise us by hiring more Negroes. The encouraging and_ stimulation of political awareness and interest rank high among the purposes of The Flint Civic Organiz-- ation. Mr. Clarance Reeves, chaitman of the Political Committee o~ the F.C.O., is announcing the views and the stand of the F.C.O. on the forthcoming Tax Referendum election in this edition of the Bronze Reporter. This committee, composed of able men, has studied the Tax Referendum and its recommendations have been approved by the Flint Civic Organization.
