Governor G. Mennen Willimas (center) presented the award to Dr Bunche last monnth in Flint, while F. Granger Weil (left), editor of the Port Huron Times-Herald and chairman of the award selection committee, look on. New Frontiers Day was celebrated last May 21 on the final.day of Michigan Week, the observance dedicated to refminding Michigan citizens ~of their state~s- greatness. Receiving the award in addition to Dr. Bunche were Poet Edgar A. Guest, DetroitEdison President Walker Cisler, Mackinac Straits Bridge Authority Chairman Prentiss Brown, and Dr. Thomas Francis, famed for his research on virus diseases. Wellington, was hostess to the Helping Hand Circle of the King~s Daughters at its last meeting, Thursday, November 3. Mrs. Francis Leach, president, was the first to arrive. Currently, Africans are stoning whites having injured 14 in one week-end and wrecked buildings, automobiles and machinery at one | copper mine. At the mine, African violence began after an African was killed by a crane operated by a European. Whites called it.an accident. Some 300 Africans were arrested. The government is pianning what it calls emergency measures to stop ~hysterical African mob lawlessness.~ These plans include public flogging and _ collective fines on all African families living near riot scenes to compensate whites hurts in the attacks. Roosevelt Urges |Support For Anti-Lynch Bills. WASHINGTON - James Roosevelt (D. Calif.) stated last week that he wished to ~join in the swelling roar of. protest that is rising against the insenate brutalities that are presently going unpunished in the State of MissisSippi. That such inhuman crimes can be committed in our country is revolting but that they can then be tactly coutponed is literally sickening.~ In a letter to Atty. Thomas G.
