Saginaw Phone CE 4-2631 SWAN LAKE SYNOPSIS: Lise Stratskof is a great success as a ballerina. In dancing before some of the -highest officials in the country, she was, acclaimed as a Prima Ballerina. Everyone is happy for Lise. However, Roger Blake, Lise~s boy friend, is strangely moody. The next day at rehearsal, Roger drops Lise. * * % ~Lise was suddenly aware of bright lights. Hundreds of bright lights seemed to be spotlighted on her. Slowly she began to make out the forms of figures. Then suddenly | she * remembered Roger... the terrible pain in her back, ~Roger, Roger...~~, Lise~s voice sounded strange and - far away in her ears. She closed her eyes. When she awoke, the people were still there. A far away voice seemed to be calling her. It was the dance dirctor, ~~How are you feeling Lise?~ he asked. Lise opened her mouth but noth~ing ~ame out. The next few days were a confused blur of people friends, Mother, the kids in the troupe, the dance director, doctors, and nurses. At last Lise +could ~begin to make out. faces a little better and was able to stay awake longer. She remembered ~| everyone coming to her:bedside~ everyone, that is, except Roger. Where -was Roger? Surely he would be! at her side. It was he who ~had caused, all this. Suddenly-a knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. ~Who is it?~ Lise asked. ~It~s Doctor Bradley,~ a ~voice answered. ~Come in.~ Lise vaguely remembered a rathér short, stocky man in white, at her side on and off during the past few |days. His face was a blank. What had he come to tell.her? For the first time since the terrible accident, Lise thought of the consequences of the~ fall. There was only a slight pain in her back now, but she dared not think any! longer. ~How are you feeling today, Miss|-Stratskof?~~ Dr. Bradley asked as he took her pulse. Lise could only nod because the nurse at his side had popped ~a thermometer in) her mouth., ~Well, there,~~~ he smiled at her ~That will be all) for now nurse.~ ~How ~am I, Doctor ~ from Lise.~~~You are going to be alright~. Lise heaved a sigh of relief. ~However,~ Dr. ~Bradley added, ~You won~t be jable to dance again.~~ At first Lise could not believe her ears, and then it struck her. ~| She could only sit there in stun ned silence. ~Oh no!~ And Roger wasn~t even there to share her sorrow. | ~ K. First there were hundreds of Fiimtites who journeyed to Canada to par ticipate in the Emancipation Day Celebration in which Mrs. Mary McCiecd Bethune was one.of the principal speakers. Then there was. uuprecedented interest in the Third Ward Primary Elections whicn resulted in a Negro surviving for the first time competition on the primary level. We find that Flint is still a favorite vacationing spot for many. * % % * From Helena, Arkansas, Misses Verlyn and Carrie Baker are visiting Mr. and Mrs. David Lambert, 818 E. Spencer, for several weeks. Miss Verlyn Baker is a student of Arkansas State College, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and Carrie is a junior in High School. They reported that they are enjoying their stay in Flint, with their aunt and uncle, The David Lamberts. Verlyn was pleasantly surprised to meet two of her former classmates here, Darwyn Davies and Miss Bunner Cowser. e & * Mr. and Mrs. Doty Anderson, 4301 ~Roberts, entertajined Detroiters over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Land of Detroit were guests of the Andersons. They were treated to dinner Sunday and a sight-seeing trip. Mrs. Anderson. and Mrs. Lanid are: sisters, g % % * Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Bransford, 1528<Liberty, are hosts to Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Smith and family. The Smiths and two children, Arnold, Jr., age 2 and little Kerry Kimberly, 7 months old, are here from Indianapolis, Ind. They expect to be here for two weeks. He was introduced: to an attractive young lady, whom they were showing the town. The visitor was Mrs. Vivian Bryant. In the party were Mrs. Reeves, Miss Clara McCain, and her escort, Mr. C. Jones. Mr. Gus Wells and Mr. Archie Allen were on hand enjoying a few minutes talking about old times. * |e ~@ Kemember Marcellus Wilson? Well, he was at the Golden Leaf Club having a gay time renewing old acquaintances. He informed The BRONZE R that he had just left Montreal and was in Flint to MC a show shortly. A quick check revealed a number of familiar faces were there. Ernie Parker, Audrey Miller, Jimmie Carlton, Major Fowler, Stanley (pinhead) Rokor, LaVoy Smith, Seldon Williams, John. Henderson, Walter Haywood, Ed Watkins, James Wadsmorth, Jimmie Grant,~ Barbara Scott, vocalist with Jimmy Henderson~s Sophisto Cats: and Raphael Allen were a few merry makers at the Golden Leaf Club. ba * % * Mr. and Mrs. Tinnie Trout of South Kinloch, Missouri, were the guests last week of Mr- and Mrs. Ples Swan, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Owens, and of Mrs. Sidney Harding. Mrs. Trout is the sister of Mrs. Swan. The Swan~s entertained as their guests, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Benson, Mrs. Benson is the neice of Mrs. Swan. Mr. Charles G.
