Authors of note in ~the field of literature) are turning| their best efforts toward the juyenile. Some of the best to come off the presses in the recent past are: ~listed ~below., ~The| Penny That Rolled Away~ by Louis MacNeice | (Putnam: 32.25) The three main characters Dinah, |a dime, a nickle called Nick, and Penny, their baby sister. Much has been written and said about the child after birth, however, the prenatal months are also very important ones. It. is during these formative months that many of the child~s later characteristics, nitich of his later physical condition is determined. Heridity plays its role, but environment plays an important role also. The new born child, on the day that he she comes into the world is already an experienced person cf nine or. seven months, as_ the case may be. If this is the first one, remember that. millions of women: have had babies before and surprisingly enough, came through the event. Before we go any farther in this discussion, don~t listen to the stories of other women albout the difficult and long labors. ~ In the no two women are | alike, and therefore, do not. ex~| perience the same kind of labor. ~| Ifyou take care of yourself, fol low your doctor~s orders, and get plenty of rest, there is no rea-.| son to believe that you will have 4} | a difficult labor. One of the most. impcrtant things that one must keep in mind is the fact. that you are allowed to| gain 20 pounds. After that you are entering the danger zone. ~An overly large child can make things pretty difficult for you and for the doctor. The following is a sample diet to be followed by the expectant mother. First, however, here is a list of | the things which will have 'to be ~eliminated: Pastries, white bread, spaghetti, noodles, macaroni, dumplings, eandies, scift drinks, and other foods rich in sugar. Aleoholic beverages shculd also be. completely eliminated from the diet. Do not eat between meals unless advised ~by your physician. | DIET Breakfast ~ iOne Egg Bacon (2. slices) | Orange, Juice (8 ounces) | Coffee (1 cup with sugar) ~|. Brown Bread with Butter (Cooked cereal may ~be used instead of egg and ~bacon) Lunch Glass of Milk Dessert Dinner ~ ~One helping of Meat or ~Fish Two Vegetebles (cooked) |. Brown Bread and Butter | Salad Coffee ~Dessert |A glass of milk should be taken at 10:00 A. M. and at 4:00 P. M. and upon retiring at bedtime. You should drink six to e~ght glasses of water daily. |Your physician will supply you with vitamins and other dietary supplements.; | Keep your mind at ease, keep up. with daily events. ~Don~t let yourself go.~~ Don~t feel~ sorry for yourself.
