4 Saturday, July 17, 1954 THE BRONZE REPORTER Page Five ~ | # _ Society Page Your Friend "ss Need | Dear Mrs. Blake: I have a daughter of thirteen who is giving me a lot of trouble. She stays out late at night and insists on painting up like an Indian, No girl of thirteen should be wearing lipstick. As for staying out late, I am scared one minute and mad the next whenever she stays out late. Heayens knows who she is with or what she is doing! | I just don~ti know what to do! ~T have tried everything I know. I have fussed, threatened to have}! her put away and even whipped her. Nothing works. I am a work- |.. ing ~mother anda Christian. I have tried to be a good mother - but Johnnie Mae doesn~t seem to apreciate anything I do for her. Here of late she even plays hookey from school. What can I do to make her mind? Sincerely, Mrs. T.E.S, 7** viting, some friends her age over to the house, This should be done when you or another adult can act as chaperone, of course. In~ addition, household tasks to take some of the spare time off her hands might help. My prayers go with you. Cordially, Ruth Blake 6 Dear Madam: May I say first ef all that whipping a thirteen-year-old gir]. will hardly do any good.. You do not mention Johhnie Mae~s father, so I am assuming that you are bringing her up alone. Working makes your task all the more: difficult. I will try answer your problems in the sanfe order that you listed them. Your daughter will no doubt wear lipstick whether or not she has your approval. Perhaps you could compromise by helping her choose an appropriate shade and showing her how to wear it. Many lipstick companies put out a shade called ~Natural~? which tints the lips ever so lightly.
