Tony Ware, Lionel Hampton, Hendress Vaness and Paula Logan get together back stage after the Hampton dance at the IMA... They say things were really Groo-vy. Mrs. Eula Mae Wilder and Daughter Return From California Vacation Mrs. Eula Mae Wilder of 415 ~is just back. from three exciting weeks in sunny California. She and her daughter, Betty, have just about traveled from one end (of the sunshine state to another. The trip took a little over 24 hours. Mrs. Wilder and her daughter Betty traveled in the luxury of one of the new dome-topped trains. These trains, introduced several. -years ago, permit the traveler to see everything by means of a transparent overhead dome. Their first stop was to visit Mrs. Wilder~s' brother, Mr. H. M. Thomtson, in Oakland, California. The following list of their later travels will show ~you what an exciting trip it turned out to be for all. Mrs. Wilder and Betty went to. visit Mr. Wilder~s cousin in San Francisco, Mr. A. B. Graham. They also* stopped to visit friends. and rélatives ing San Francisco, Among the sights they saw were Treasure Island, San Quentin, and Alcatraz, They spent a) week in Los An geles with 5 nieces of Mrs. Wilder. Then on to Pasadena _ to visit Mr. and Mrs, Henry Wilford. In addition to seeing the mighty Rose Bowl; Mrs. Wilder visited her former pastor from Portland, Oregon, Rev. Allens. Rev. Allens is now pastor of-a new and: beautiful church, Grant Chapel AME in California.: Her sister~s 16 acre farm was next on the list, Located in.Locene Valley, it must have assured Mrs. and Miss Wilder many happy moments. Murray~s Dude Ranch was only a few miles away from her sister~s farm so, Mrs. Wilder got a chance to stop at the world famous dude ranch in Apple Valley. The Wilders also visited Mr. and Mrs. Al Gardette, formerly of Flint. And of course, no visit to California would be complete without a visit to the China Town. On the return trip, they stopped over in Kansas ~City to see Mrs. Wilder~s brother, Mr. Andrew Thomtson.. One more stop rounded out: the trip for our weary travelers, Last week it was a tired pair who entered our city.. I am sure that Flint must have looked good to them. Wellington, decided to take advantage of their home grounds for a ~back yard pienic~~~ to entertain guests and relatives, Monday, July 5. According to reports, Mr. Melvin Banner performed his duties as~ chef in a commendable fashion by taking charge of the Bar-B-Q pit. The party played ridge, listened to recordings and just whiled away time. Those entertained bythe Wallers were: Dr. and Mrs. Jas. E.
