BY SUCH INDIVEIDUAL.~ It will take a Philadelphia haw~yer to figure that one out. An unemployed worker should.claim as a dependent ANYONE who is actually dependent.on him~his wife, a parent UNDER 65, a cousin, a nephew, ~a grandparent -or grandson, or a ~neighbor. This question may go to. the courts., Since no one knows now what the courts will decide, you should always ~laim as a dependent anyone whom you are gal | porting. However, when you claim someone as a dependent, be sure to give all the information reques- | ted by the office. FAMILY CLASSES ARE REDEFINED 4, ~ The Family Classes Are Defined As Follows In The New Law: FAMILY CLASS ~~A~~An Individual\who has no dependents. FAMILY CLAS$ ~B~~An individual who has 1 dependent other than.a child. FAMILY CLASS ~C~__An indivi+ dual who has 1 child, or 2 dependents other than a child. FAMILY CLASS ~D~~~<An individual who has~ 2 children, or } child and 1 dependent other than a child, or *3 dependents other than a child. FAMILY CLASS. ~E~~An individual who has 3 children, or 2 children and } dependent other than a child, or 1 child. and 2 dependents other than a child, er 4 dependents. other than a child. FAMILY CLASS ~F~~An individual who has 4 or more children, or 3 children and 1 de employment security pendent other than a child, or, 2 children and 2 dependents other than.a child or 1 child ~and 3 dependents other than a child, or 5 dependents other than a child. 5.~Examples Of Increases In Duration Or Amount: Question: A single worker with no dependents earns $2 an hour. He works 20 weeks at 40 hours a week and then works three days a week for 19 weeks. How much pokes ah is he entitled to and for how long?. Answer: His. average weekly wage would be 20 times 40 times $2 ($1600), plus 19 times 4 times $2. (912) divided by 39, or an average of $64:41 a week. He would be in family clpds ~A~ and so. entitled to $28 a week for 26 weeks. Question. What if he had a.non-working wife? & Answer: He would then be in family Class ~~B~ and entitled to $30 for 26 weeks. (Note: A person doesn~t necessarily get anything extra for a dependent wife, It depends on the wage class.) -Question: What if the wife went to work when the man was on a three-day week because she thought her husband might be laid off?. - Answer. She would not be a dependent and so the man could get only $28. If she went to work after he filed his claim and got it established, then his compensation would remain at $30.. Question: What if the worker thas four dependent~ children under 18? ~ Answer. He would then get. a total of $38 a week. Question: What if the: claimant has a mother and a father living in another state whom. he supports but who are 59 years old and able to work, and has a nephew under 18 and one over 18 whom he supports, and also supports a refugee child that is not related to him? Answer: He should explain these facts to the local employment security office, and claim five dependents and ~that he is in family clas, ~F~ and eligible for|_ $38 a week. If he is denied, he should: check with the local union. | JUNE 27 SET AS _. -EFFECTIVE DATE 6 ~ Effective Date. It is not clear if a claimant can get a retroactive adjustment for payments already made. He should apply for them. More advice will be given before June 27. The following persons can receive these. additional benefits: 1. A.person who files for a new benefit year on or after June 27. 2. A person who is drawing benefits on June 27. 3. A person who is not drawing benefits June 27, but still has a valid benefit year. Question: A worker has. never | before been unemployed, but files a claim June 28. (June 27 is at Sunday.) He had worked 36 weeks) before being laid off, On July 5 he draws his twentieth check of $27, for the week ending July 3. Is he entitled to any additional benefits? Answer: Yes, he can receive an additional four weeks checks and will be in family: class ~B~ and so will receive | $29. a week (for the addfional four weeks.
