Miss Wright wil! first dance (recital |.at ium Jeyce HIS is the season seu | the vear for ~urges,~ bringing to some folks the persistent desire to shuck troubles and go fishing or else: to the golf course. This time of year also brings to many, predominately the female of the. species, the seasonal urge to dig deep inta Mother Earth and therein plant tender sprouts that might be watched, pampered and coddled with loving care. And let~s face it, fo some there comes an urge that ts not an urge at all, = * soul-satisfying state of lethargy~that is a wonderful panacea for folks ina position to enjoy spring fever. I sympathize: with folks in ~the moods mentioned above. I think little matches the ~beauty of dawn greeted from the side of a rolling trout stream. I know that pounding. a golf; ball is much less boring than pounding, a typewriter. And fresh earth, like printer~s ink may be cleansed from the fingers, yet both leaves an invisible stain upon hand ahd memory.: My wish at this time of year, if I could have my ~~druthers,~~ is that days were so long as to allow time to satisfy urges as they came along, without fear that the day would end too soon. I don~t know whether or not I am peeved that man~s right to | existence is conditioned by the fact that he must spend a great part of his time working to earn the food he eats and the roof that shelters him. Anyone objecting to this neces ~sary state of affairs would either _ be troubled with incurable spring ' fever or else be just ~Plain, ord fashioned lazy. MOTHER OF YEAR... LYN CONNELLY NE day several months ago, Garry Moore appeared before his fans with the startling pronunciamento that all this life he had | been wondering about the possi' bility of using ~a vacuum cleaner i ~on a horse but-én this day, he was {finally going to~ do it Then |and there Garry launched into | this self-imposed chore, much,,;to the merriment and amusement | of the millions of daily viewers of | CBS~ *~Garry Moore Show~~.... This | is only one of the many unexpected | things that occur on} Garry~s.pro-. The other day, Garry | donned a grass skirt and decided | to give his audiences a serious lec-; ture on the hula dance.. What | he ~said turned out to be far lesg | kmportant than what he did. Already launched on his fourth | guecessive year on daytime tele| vision, Garry~s audiences have con~ditioned themselves to be ready for practically anything in the way (of entertainment on the. ~Garry Moore Show~~... One day he may stage a frog-jumping contest, the next he may display a troupe of trained elephants and the third.a fashion show... He and Durward Kirby may give their own interpretation of what happens when the charwoman takes aver the offices or Garry may suddenly decide that he would like to have a serious - talk with his audience. Caution: Habit Porming Each week more and more people attest that Garry Moore is more | than just entertainment ~he is a | habit ~ an unspeakable habit... You watch him once, most of them | will say, and you find yourself watching him every day thereafter ~. ~ He just grows on you and before you realize {t, you let nothing interfere with your enjoyment of ~ his program..,. Garry gives full whose mail gives him a good idea ef what they want to see.. s~ He must have the right formula | as his ig one of the most popular ~ daytime shows on the air today. HEN the young son Jerry, of George W. Meyer, 309 San Jose Ave nue, Los Gates, California, brought home his first report card for the~first semester, George and his wife realized they had one of those hard-to-handle, adolescent-age problems on their hands. The report was a disgrace to the boy-as well as a reflection upon his parents. So George and his wife fell into the common error of scolding and punishing in. an effort to stimulate the son into doing better work at school. But things went from bad/to worse~even the ~*hand of fellowship~ applied to the ~~seat of learning~~ produced no good results. When the second, and equally - disgraceful, reportcard was in their hands, they became desperately concerned, for they knew Jerry would have to eer the year~s work if he did not improve. Then they decided to change their approach from the negative to the positive. The fact that they did not try it sooner, George says, was CARNEGIE an indication of their own stupidity. They began showi1g sympathy in the boy's inter ests and listening to what he had to say~for a change. Soon they found themselves in a position to ~~motivate't ~ to interested effort in - | his own behalf, Today, because he is! | finding satisfaction in doing something he really wants to do, Jerry is one of the top ten in his class. He is hap | pier, and a source of real joy to; & his mother ard father., | 2715 INDUSTRIAL AVE. LOUNGE * BIG FIVE ALL - Sensation ef the Week!
