coffee and, if he wanted, Dad would
water his horse and tend: to him
while Doc got the " owdown~~ on
our family. |

Then, off he~d go to answer. his
next call, refréshed and rested, like
as not sound asleep; when he got
there. He never neg ected his patients and if you had gout, he calléd
it gout.. I really enjoyed. the assorted candy and-peppermint sticks
he carried and always had a bag

of apples for him, |

I learned that some more needy
family than ours. got all, the gifts
I gave him for, being a shrewd old
gent, he gave~his gifts in the far
corners of town, rather than. to
someone in the neighborhoo~.
