REPORTER. * * * March} 27, 1954 Dear Editor: I have followed your paper with increasing interest. Your editorials have been ~stimulating.especially the last two about, Hamady Brothers: ' What puzzles me is the-reluctance on the part of the man- 2 agement of -thesé businesses to hire Negro personnel. $33,000 is a lot of money in anybodys league~ and it seems to me that Hamady Brothers: Food Markets would consider it GOOD BUSINESS to abandon their ~lily white~ policy. I do feel that a business éenterprise should be allowed the freedom of hiring whoever they see fit. It is not a point of trying to force anyone~ to do anything as I see it, but I don~t see why we should,~ as you pointed out, ~continue tc spend our money where it is not appreciated. Their refusal to hire Negroes as cashiers, _ et cetera is proof enough to me that my dollar is not wanted, so like several of: my neighbors, } will not darken their doors~ so long as they do not respect us. Sincerely, (Name withheld on reques st) * * *: March 29, 1954 ~Dear Editor: We are with you 100% _ inyour struggle to improve our lot. If it was left to me there wouldn~t be another ~Black Dollar~ rung up in a Hamady eash register. It is high time that we as a group wake up and stop being a. joke. No, we can~t MAKE a business hire us, but we _ certainly can spend ovr money where its appreciated. ~So let~s make it our business to pass the word around that ~our ~patronage isn~t wanted by Hamady Brothers. Sincerely, A ~Former Hamady Shopper~ > * * | March 31, Dear Editor: It is difficult to believe that Negroes are spending so much money with a store that won~t let them work as tney would any other citizen. ~Nevroes have heen: faithful ~and loyal to our country.
