College, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, was chosen with five other students to appear in Who's. Who of American Colleges and Universities for the year. of 1953 iribptions Nomination qualifications were: Outstanding conri tions to school, scholarship, leadership, cooperation, acedemic, extra curriculum activities, and citizenship and service to school. Awards will be presented to the honored students on Graduation Day in Mays Darwin was also co-captain of the football |team and was named to the first All-American Team. *%* ok ok 8 Hattie Jenkins, daughter of Mrs. Marie Norman, 1225 Marengo, received her B. S: Degree from the University of Michigan in February. She has entered the Graduate School there and is working. toae ja Master~s Degree in Sociology. She is a member of AKA orority. % * * Bo |Sylvester, Collins, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Collins, 766 Leith, is making quite a name for himself at Michigan: State Normal. He is a Physical Theraphist Major and will zraduate in June. He is president of his fraternity, Omega Psi Phi; a _ member of the Student Council-and the Student Advisory Board; _ he ig a member of the football team and has made great strides in track.: ~ * % %; The Spring Recital, sponsored by the Home Makers Club No. 5, will feature Melvina PRanner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Banner, 1415 Broad Street. Saginaw, weré hosts over the week-end to Mrs. Gladys Sherrill of Nashville; Tennessee. Mrs. Sherill is the sister of our charming Mrs. Kimbraugh. eae Sg tel. Mr. D. H. Blakemore, the manager of Superior Life Insurance Society, left this week for Chattanooga, Tenn. for his marriage reception. His bride will return to Flint with him. She is the daughter of }Chattanooga~s leading business man and newspaper publisher, Mr! Walter C. Robinson. kik ok ~ \DONNA-NETTES... Canasta highlighted the social hour ~when members.of the Donna-Nettes met: at the home of Mrs. Angelo Cannon at 1056 Baltimoré. The hostess used for her color scheme St. Patrick~s colors of green and white. The business meeting~ preceded the social hour whic was enjoyed by all. This - group of women wishes te make happy on Easter of girl of three. The child selected will be given a complete Easter outfit. Mrs. James L. Barron of 821 E. Dewey who is the club vice-president, will interview any needy child of this age, afternoons between hours of 3 and 4 v~clock or she will. gladly check any names submitted to her. To be eligible for this outfit, the child~s~ parents would be unable to buy because of illness or some other misfortune jor because of a broken home.:: | eee, The women of _Betkel Methodist ~Church really gave Flint a treat Sunday afternoon. ~ All who attended have been singing praises to these women who were so successful jin their effort. eT: a * A " * 150 ATTEND ST. PATRICK~S TEA GIVEN BY CLARK CHILD, STUDY CLUB... This tea was given to acquaint the community with the purpose and aims of Child Study. The aims of the group are: To cultivate a deeper regard for family life; to educate for intelligent parenthood ~ not to raise them easier but better; to enlarge our circle of friends and acquaintances; to-coeperate with other. homes, the school and the community; to become familiar with books and publications to which we can refer far assistance; and to develop personalities and to train for leadersip. Mrs. Booker Wilder, the chairman, and the members who worked so faithfully with her felt well rewarded for their past efforts and contributions.
