Page Eight ~ Golden Gloves Show A Success | Thursday, Jan. 29, at 8:00 p.m. the opening bell of the 1954 Gélden Gloves tournament sounde ed, and for the remainder of the _evening the record crowd of 2200 people were on the edges of their seats. I don~t believe there has been more variety of fighting enmger; styles for a decade. The outstanding boys in the opéning bouts are: John Pitts. who used the bolo punch, combined with right crosses, uppercuts, and right jabs. to advantage in defeating Marvin Foster from Clip- Pitts looked especially good in the first round. More than 2200 fight fans cheered their favorites as round after round of boxing went into oblivion. A much larger crowd is anticipated on Saturday, Jan- 30.
