THE BRONZE REPORTER Pape Five: Society Page -: Social Clubs THE VEL CLUB: Once again this group of. charming ladies highlighted. the holiday season with festivity and gaiety. Mrs: Maceo Lewis of 723 E. Jamieson St. was hostess for: the ~ o~easion. In keeping with the spirit of giving. and festivity. these ladies came with laden-arms of| gifts, for at Christmastime they reveal the mames of their secret pals.. The girls presented their president, Mrs. Alzona Wilder, a lovely silver ice bucket. They | also brought contributions for the ' - food basket which will be giver | toa needy family. The party members included di Mr. and Mrs. Grady Wilder, Mr. | and Mrs. James Brown, Mr. and Mrs. John Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Walker Jackson, Mr and Mrs. Penoid Scott, Mr. and Mrs. | Robert Allen, Mr. and Mrs. -Harvey ~Spears, Mr. and Mrs. James Lott; and guests included Mr. and~ Mrs. Lucius Fleming and Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Bell. Mrs. Wilder has been president of this group for the past several years. Throughout the year, the members have gifted her with var-| ious pieces of gilver,- helping her to;make ready for her new home which is nearing completion. She wore for the party a lovely dress of blue lace with matching earings and necklace of pearls. The black taffeta and rhinestones worn by Mrs. Estelle Spears added charm to ther~ beauty. Mrs. Allen wore a lovely navy blue taffeta low neckline party dress with rhinestone jewelry. Mrs. Brown also wore navy blue. loyely dress was suit styled with rhinestone buttons, Mrs. Jackson was graceful in draped sheath dress of gray faille. Mrs. Scott, in keeping. with the holiday season wore a_ lovely red faille. Mrs. Lott was charming in a green wool crepe suit, and Mrs. Parker wore a pink flor-. al ~blouse with black and white skirt. Each lady. lent her culinary: art iby (bringing forth her special dish. This delicious. buffet ~luncheon was enjoyed by all including the Associate Editor of the Bronze Reporter, John Gibson Jr. and yours truly, Irma Williams.| Visits Parents ~Mr,:and Mrs. H. J. The contract, issued by the defense department, would make GM the only producer of the M-48 Patton tank. Kefauver -asked_ the Senate armed services committee, of which he is a member, to conduct such an investigation. The fallacy of the ~put-allyour: eggs in one basket~ theory was pointed up.in Detroit this year when the Livonia transmission plant of General: ~ Motors burned to the ground. The _ plant was the only producer of hydramatic transmissions for GM and several independent. auto makers. Wilson, who was former president of G.M.. Chrysler corporation, which developed the tank, also bid for the order but they were underbid. by GM by 12%. Kefauver pointed out that the single-producers theory. would make it that much easier for an enemy to cripple tank production im case of war and would also. result in the loss of skilled technicians and production know-how. He said that Chrysler has planned to use suppliers in 39 states in an attempt to spread out production over as wide an area as possible. Get-Together Club Holds Xmas Party Together Club held their annual Christmas party on December 17, at the home of Mrs. Anna Ollie, 420 East 12th Street. } ~The centerpiece drew many an enticing glance, being made up of the traditional greens and holly flanked by a succulent turkey and all the trimmings. Gifts were exchanged ~among the members and their guests. The following members were present: Mrs. Susie Suber, president; Mrs. Theola Pea, vice-president; Mrs. Elizabeth Metcalf, secretary; Mrs. Leontine Branden, Mrs. Lela M. Bryant, Mrs. Alia Holge, Mrs. Mary Ellen Molley, Mrs. Anna Ollie (hostess) and Mrs. Kay Hartfield and Mrs. M. Banner. Guests invited were: Mrs. Lovie: Swan, Mrs. Thelma Williams, Mrs. -Fran |ces Leach, Mrs. Nannie Pegues, Mrs. Doris Mayes, Mrs. Bernice Hayden, Mrs. Kathleen Adams, Mrs. Dorothy Williams, Mrs.,Annie Turpin, and Mrs, Oma Wesley. No further meetings will be held after January 13, until the warm weather arrives. Home For The Holidays... Harrison McGee, 1960 Crockfer, who is majoring in music at Western Michigan College in Kala@mazoo is fiome for the Christmas holidays. Harrison had as guest for the week end a fellow student who is studying pre-law ~at Western Michigan. James Bailey hails from Benton Harbor. A party honoring Harrison and James was given by Mrs. McGee. Included in the many guests who were present were Wilma Grace Brady and Sharon Wilson. Both of these young ladies are students enrolled in the Nursing school at Hurley Hospital. Virgil Wendell form Michigan Normal at Ypsilanti and Howard Wilson from the University, of Michigan were also present for the hilarieus occasion. The Bobby Wilson~s of 3027 Aitkens also entertained on $unday night honoring the visitors home for the holidays. School Teacher To Visit Cuba Miss Ruth Van Zandt, teacher at Parkland School left ~Sunday, December 20, to spend the Christmas holiday with her father.
