~~~ 14-23, 29-36. 4 Christmas? _ Saturday, Decmber 26, 1953 THE BRONZE REPORTER) ie e ana -~a a. a - - ~ Rev. Robert H. Harper God Revealed in Christ. Lesson for January 3, 1954: Joba~ 1: Golden Text: John 20: 31. It is the wish of the writer that every reader will come this New - Year into a larger knowledge of the Father~s will. In this first study of the year, nothing could be better than the text which tells us of the revelation of Goa to men through Christ. John, in many respects dissimilat to the other Gospel writers, loved to write of the mystery of ~Christ's person. He used the Greek werd, ~~logos,~~ spelling it with a capital, to be a name for Jesus Christ.; Logos ~means word andJohn thus called Jesus the Word. Words have had a great part in the achievements'of men. A word is a sign of a thought,, whether it be in the small brain of a savage or the brain of one in ~~~the foremost files of time.~~ It is by words ' that men communicate with one another. So Jesus is the revelation - of God to men, the Eternal Word. While John was preaching in the wilderness, he proclaimed Jesus as the long-promised Christ and invited men to give their lives. to him. But ~there came a greater witness than that of John. The Spirit like a dove descended from héaven to abide upon Jesus. And the next day John, looking upon '.'Jesus as he walked, said to two idisciples who had come to him, ~Behold the Lamb of God!~ From these things: we learn that ~od manifested himself to men in ~Jesus Christ, He became the Son ~ef man that men through him ~might become the sons of God. ~May we find Christ the answer to ur deepest needs. Flint, Michigan ~ | Phone 8-4794 C10 Withdraws Support Of Inter-Faith Group CIO has regretfully withdrawn its support of the National -Con ~ ~ference of Christians and Jews, it was announced this week by CIO secretary-treasurer. James B. Carey in his capacity as chairman of the labor group~s. civil rights committee. Carey said the action came because of ~basic differences~ over discrimination. The withdrawal of support was conveyed in a letter Carey wrote to Lewis W. Douglas, chairman of the conference~s Brotherhood Week activities. Carey said the, action was taken because some of the affiliated bodies of the conference ~especially in the South, openly engaged in discrim-| inatory practices, such as exclud-- ing Negroes from their deliberations or according them only limited participation.~ He said CIO discussed this situation for some two years with the conference, emphasising ~that we could not affiliate -.ourselves with organizations that permit racial discrimination in their constituent bodies.~ | ~Our differences are basic ones relating to the implementation of organizational: policies,~ the Carey letter declared. ~Our organization is fully committed to the abolition of racial segregation and discrimination.: ~Our procedures do not permit us to indulge in partial application of this principle. Therefore, we find it impossible to ~successfully coooperate with organizations who deal with this subject on a varying basis.. The entire situation is very much to be regretted.~ Carey said that ~in the absence of a forthright policy statement ~ against race discrimination,~ CIO affiliates will be advised not to participate in the work of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Pryor SUBJECT: THE COST OF WORLD BROTHERHOOD TEXT: Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. ~Matt. 6:9-10 Acts. 10:34, Acts 17:24-28. These.scriptures set forth the basic thinking of our message today. Today we are living in a world of much misinterpretation of Bible truths. Therefore, the world is in much confusion. 1. First, an ovtward cry for peace but an inward manifestation of malice, hatred, and deep seated prejudices. On grounds peace can never come. Jesus.came and taught the new way of life and peace. His birth opened up this avenue and made possible the coming of peace, but he emphatically taught that~ his first coming to the earth was a disturbance. And. this statement is true. To set the wrong right when wrong has been on the throne insures the greatest. disturbance. 2. A misunderstanding of the first coming of Jesus Christ. What the prophet said concerning him was true, but it was too deep for their absolute apprehension. ~And they. were led to speak of his sec And the world looked for total peace and total re-establishment of earthly kingdoms at his. birth. But there has not been total peace since the birth of Jesus unto now. 3. The terms on which total peace and everlasting, peace is brought about. Jesus taught it in the 6th chapter of Matthew and the 9th verse by saying, ~When/| you pray, say our Father who art) in heaven.~ It has been said) that all men ~are. created equal.) in relation to the, creative act of God. He is our) This is true father by creation. By creation we are brothers and-sisters. But we are not brothers and sisters by adoption which comes only thru. the bloodshed of Jesus Christ. Then by adoption we are not all equal. -Jesus came to ~bring two. worlds together on the basis of! christian ~brotherhood. The Jews) these | i~Téaching the |} celebration of their of and the Gentiles were the trouble with the world then, the Jews and Gentiles are the trouble with the world now. 4. Racial] barriers can: only be broken through the free accept-, ance of the gospel which makes all men equal in the sight of God. ~Peter you were -suffering with ~superioity complex.~ Tell me what happened to you that broke the barriers. He would say, ~ a prayer meeting at home.~ ~Paul you were a scholar of your day and heartfilled with prejudice.~ ~Tell me what happened to you on the Damacus road the ~cultural city of the world. He would say ~in Ath ~found the worship place of the un~known God.~ His text~ read ~The God that, I~m representing to the world ddes not dwell in temples made by ithe hands of men.~ He is not seen in monuments of the earth but in Him we move, live and a our being.
