The Helping Hand Circlé - of i _ Kingsdaughters are sending/a gift ~box to the University Hospital _for the Cripple Children. Mrs. Mildred Walton, chairman of the Children~s Department will distribute the gifts of aprons, ~ shirts, painting books, story books, ~| and many other toys and games. | The officers of this ~fine benevolent group of women are: President, Mrs, Fannie~ Harcum; Vice president, Mrs. / Virgal Linney; Secretary, Mrs, John Caldwell; Tieasurer, Mrs/-Samuel Rolland; Celebrates Birthday Mr. J. Merril Spencer, | 8th St. was, honored at a surprise ~birthday dinner~ party at home on Saturday, Dec. 5. It ~ took quite a bit of doing to keep | the secret from ~Spence~ but: through the ingenuity Spencer, this was accomplished, and the surprise was complete. The party was. occasion for family reunion. Wilson. The color scheme. of pink and white was carried out through the floral decorations of pink and white carnations. Two tall candles, one.of pink and the other white, adorned each end of the table. In the center was a beautiful white cake decorated with pink roses, Hostesses. for the reception were Mrs. R. B. Williams, Miss Alveater Chester, Mattie Williams, Mrs, Lee Perry and Mrs. A. Burrell, aunt of the groom. The bride chose to. receive her guests in a beige bouffant dress andsdark brown, a~cessories. About 100 friends and tives; were on hand to give their congratulations and best wishes to the bride and groom. Among the many guests from out of town were: Mr. T. C. Wilson, Mr. E. Wilson, cousin of the groom, Mrs. Julia MclIvain, all of Detroit, and Mrs. Lydia Walker of Pontiac. Mrs. Wilson is the former Marilyn Parcher, step-daughter of Mr..C. P. Liston, formerly of Lima, Ohio, but is now residing in Flint. &S Visitors From Detroit... Your writer happened to drop into one of the local clubs over tie week-end and found a party of ~eople over from the big city of Detroit having a nice time. The party was composed of Mr. Thomas Anderson, Miss Garnetta ~Nickerson, Mr.: Frank Poe, Mrs. Matilyn Mial. Mrs. Mial was Matilyn Sims, ~ formerly of Flint. In another party, Detroit again sons of: Miss Garnetta Russell, Mr. Wendall Hall and ~Mr. LeRoy Walker. Your reporter, why a party should:leave Detroit and come to Flint. to enjoy themselves. Becomes Bride Of Billy Fields The rites were read by the Rev. R. R. Turpin at the Sunday: | evening wedding ceremony which united Doris Lee Smith and Billy Fields. This was accentuated with white pearls. A net Juliet cap, secured the bride~s veil; and her bouquet was composed of orchids. Arabelle Dantzler, performed the duties of maid of honor. She, wore ballerina length dress of pale blué lace ~over taffeta and, she also carried orchids. \ ~Best man for the bridegroom was James Glasper, Jr. A reception ~attended by many guests was held following the wedding. The buffet table was adorned- with red roses and wedcentered with miniature bride and groom, symbolizing the significance ' of the occasion. The bride is a native of Flint and is active in social affairs. | Mr. Fields and Mr. Glasper pre from Alexandria, La. Gueses included Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Fields, aunt and uncle of the groom.
