EDMUNDS, Executive Director Urban League of Flint A younge Negro leader recently told a Flint audience that we are witnessing a ~tremendous ~moral awakening throughout the nation.~ He issued a plea for ~Negroes to take advantage of the opportunities that this awakening presents to us for achieving our full rights as American citizens. ' ly. For it appears that today ~jim is definitely on the run. It is on the run because large numbers of influential white and colored citizens think that it is shameful and not in keeping with what we know to be the American way of life. Vhey are working relentlessly to remove it from the~ American scene. This moral awakening is hav-,ing an effect on life in our own community. It does not take an analytical genius to see that individuals:and groups of our city who ~have reputations for foster facial injustices, intslerance and inequalities are taking stock of their rigid attitudes and unprincipled actions. We find that. many of them are becoming defensive and conscience stricken over their parts in the undemocratic prac| tices that are still being perpetrated in Flint. And that is good. It shows conclusively that a moral aa awakening is being felt right here.in Flint. But it will continue to ~Negro citizens advantage. of the opportunities that are presented by such awakening. A simple way of cooperating is by first taking part in the many social, civic. and political affairs of our city that are open to all peoples.
