|THE BRONZE REPORTER Saturday, Navember Zt: 1953. - Masquerade Ball Held Nov. 9 The ZAGS Masquerade Ball on. November. 9 Was. again the year~s most exciting social affair. ~ (Originality of costumes was most striking. The members of the group wore costumes of black satin matadour trousers with silver metallic halters, the donkéy caps which tied beneath the chin and pony tails. pinned to - the trousers were also of metallic silver. These gicseots girls really tent \ghiety to the fun as they formed ~their chorus line} called the Zags ~MaSquerade Review and_ really let go their dancing talent. The proceeds of this ball go to finanee scholarships to high school graduates of Flint. _ In our estimation these girls are doing a great job for the * ~betterment of the community. Officers of the group are: Ozie Grady, president; Vivian Edmunds, vice-president; Frances Norman, recorder; Edith Bissel, treasurer. Other members in clude Annalea Bannister, Cloteal Coney, Helyne Holbrook, Doris James, Otelia Nelson, Esther Simmons, Spencel Truss, Jacqueline Weaver and es. Williams. ~ Child Study Club The Clark Child Study | Club is a: school ~group affiliated with the Flint Chid Study Forum. ' | Meetings are held twice a month at one of the members~ homes. Mrs. L. E. Beane, 2222 Crock~er, is hostess for the next meeting. Guest speaker for the evening will be Mrs. John Kaufman of the Flint Child. Guidance: Clinic. She- will also present a film on ~Shyness. " The aims, of the Child. Study. Group are: TS ~tultivate a deeper regard for family life; to educate for intelligent parenthood~ _not to raise them easier but better; To enlarge our circle of friends and acquaintances; To cooperate with other homes; the school and the community; To | become familiar with books and publications to which we can refer for assistance; To develop personalities and to train for leadership. This club is open for membership, for further information, eall 5-2146, Mrs. Booker Wilder, (thairman of the club, will gladly answer all questions. Mrs. Marsh Is. Feted By Friends -Rev. and Mrs. E: J. Timmons opened their! home to Mrs. Mayold Marsh, formerly of Flint, to ~be appropriately honored by friends of long standing on -the -eve of her departure for Colorado | Springs, Colorado. Mrs. Mayolo| Wainwright, as she is still affectionately known, will be re membered for her unselfish service to the community. Refreshments were served. by Mrs. E. C. They added sparkle and glamor to the party: while they danced the evening away. Know How To Report A Fire. Find out where the nearest alarmbox is and how to use it. 4. If you use the alarm box, stay near it until the firemen come and direct them to the scene of the fire. The minutes you save,.may save your home ~ in any season. Sunny Calfornia Mrs. Gertha Burney recently returned from ~a four-week vacation in California. Mrs. Burney traveled by train to Sacramento and Delano, Cali-| fornia where she visited her sisters, Mrs. Lucy Williams and Mrs. Wyze Ancheta. While in Delano, she was ~entertained by a host of lovely friends and. old acquaintances. From, there, she motored to Los Angeles.. Friends ~visited there included Elder and Sister Frank Bowdan,; Mrs. Luella Doyles, Mrs. Lennen Tucker and Mrs. Maggie Seay. Mrs Burney states that California is a glorious state and her vacation was superb. Clark School PTA Meets Nov. 24 On Tuesday evening. at 7:30 p.m. the Clark School PTA will meet at the school.~A five-mem-|. ber panel will discuss\~~The Child and the School in the Community~. The pane] member will include Frank Manley of the School Board; Frank Corbet of the Urban ~League; Attorney Wm. S. Price, II; Mrs. Oris Beane, who will represent the school; and the Rev. F.:B. Book Week Observed Here NEW HAMPSHIRE AUTHOR SPEAKS TO CHILD STUDY MEMBERS In observance of Book Week, the Flint Public-Library sponsored the appearance of Armstrong Sperry, New Hampshire author, who spoke to the Flint; Child Study Forum on ~Writing for Young People.~ This meeting was held Tuesday evening at the Flint Institute of Arts. - Sperry stated that his. first three books were. illustrative, and. after working for three years on}| the book ~All ~Sails Set,~ it contained fifty thousand words. He also stated that there is not much difference in writing for children and adults, but that. books for children must be persuasive. Children have imagination to grasp ideas if they. are presented to them. In writing books for children, we should create the kind of characters we want them to. be. Children aren~t afraid of what is bound in.books. Reading should be fun, an enjoyable chore. Children alone know what they like the sands of time.
