Before the ball, guests dropped in to say, ~~~Happy Birthday~, and ~were served cocktails. After the dance, they all returned. for breakfast of ham and eggs and made merry ~til the early hours. The cards had just been dealt. and with one glance I knew I had, a powerhouse. ~~Not now, honey,~~ says I, ~~let~s finish this rubber.~ | ~Oh, we~ can play while we) snack,~ says she and trots hap- | pily off toward the kitchen. ~| Impatiently I shuffled my hand.~ | In about 15 minutes she returned: with plates.of cheese, olives,' | stuffed celery, ete. These she puts! ~ on the bridge table, She retreats: | to the kitchen again and returns: | with cups and a pot of coffee,~ cream and sugar. These too, she~ distributes over the bridge table. | *~~Now,~~ she says, ~we can pley and nibble at the same time.~~ Things were all right for the next~ two or three minutes while we bid.; I got it with a grand-slam bid in, | spades. Then the trouble began. Mrs. Mildred Todd, 706 E., 12, L St., and James W. Crichton, 1244 * Cekitral, were among the group of 58 aliens who took the oath of allegiance to the Constitution of the United States, Wednesday, November. 18, 1953 Mrs. Todd is from Dresden, Qntario, Canada and,jhas lived in Flint for the past 16 years. She; is an active member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She says that it~ is wonderful to live in the. Uni ~ted States and that she is happy on becoming a citizen. As presi-+ dent of the Petite Ebonettes, she~ is very active in the community;+ and has been an employee at the Mott Foundation for the ~past James W. Crichton is from St. Vincent, British West. Indies. In 1941, he joined the Active Canadian Armed Forces and ~spent most of his years of service in the European theatre. After his discharge, he entered, the United: States and took up permanent residence in Flint. From 1947 40 1951, he was manager of the St. John Trading Post, He is now @ representative for Superior Life Insurance Society of Michigan. | Pet And Sport _ Club Organizes ~ The first meeting of the Pet and Sport Club was held at the home. of Melvina Banner, 1415 Broad St. The Club has made future plans for a hike, and the showing of a variety of pets.
