Recreational Council News - - Piéase find herein an outline of our winter activities on: our agenda of the. Clifford St.. Center, 1541. Clifford Si.,and the St. John St. 3Center,.3420. St. John St: are the 3 two centers in which our program is promoted. However, some ~outside. facilities will be used from time to time such as the schools, churches aS well as the homes. Note that most of our work is done through the organized club method ~since from experience we know that this seems to be the most effective method of achieving reali results. Then too, our facilities are of such that it is more suitable for small groups. These clubs participate in all types of recreation to hold the interest of the young people. Social dancing is promoted through the club method. BASKETBALL This activity will be developed in proportion to the outside facilities that we permitted to use. The white potato,; or Irish potato, versitile history. has~ been long and eventful, its eultivation as a food first being general in Ireland. The potato is to the tune of one serving per day. Potatoes tamins and G. THE GREATEST HANDICAP to an increased potato popularity is. the monotony of preparation. There are about ~eight standard uses of the average housewife, when actually there are more than 500 recipes. And.thén there is the matter of price. Whether other foods are high or, low, the potato is always inexpensive in relative cost for the food elements it provides.\ Before delving into some of the~ various. methods of using potatoes, we will first consider its possible role as a main dish. If you can effect a saying on the main dish, which is usually meat, keeping the rest of the budget in place is no trouble. POTATOES WITH CREAMED chipped beef is an ecenomical dish. Chipped beef is usually reasonable in price. Plus a cream sauce it is stretched even further. The potatoes may be mashed or baked. And POTATO LOAF is really rib sticking: Slicing enough white potatoes to make a quart. Chill them in cold water for an hour.:- Then make a cream sauce of four tablespoons of flour, three fourths of a cup of canned milk plus the same of water. Add the potatoes and cook for five minutes. Butter a loaf pan and press the potatoes in carefully. Bake in a slow oven for an hour and just before; serving sprinkle to top with grated cheese. Satisfying both to healthy appetites and unhealthy. pocketbooks. ~ POTATO CROQUETTES are capable of serving as a main dish, and the nutrition score is upped tonsiderably by the addition of chopped nuts. Mix with a fork until light two cups of hot riced potatoes, a& fourth cup of milk, salt, pepper, one egg yolk, a third of a cup of chopped~ nuts (pecans maybe) a half teaspoon of baking powder.
