The pleasantries of this meeting touched every member present and When it was over everyone departed with a cheerfulness ~ for the nerves. The fish supper held ast SaturGay was a whaling success. The next meeting of the club will be at the home of Cecilia Waiker on Main Street. ON PICNIC Several members of a friendly circle here went out on a little picNic last Friday afternoon. Talking about a good time: well, we had it. There was everything to eat one. would want. Beverages were on hand too. The afternoon was spent in happy felicitation among this group of Flint~ people. Those taking part were ~the following: Mr. and Mrs. Aswell Elzy, Mr. and Mrs. Tsiah Johnson, Mrs. Van _ Heille and~ son, Mr. and Mrs. Slick Kenner, Henderson Walker and family, ~ Mrs. Olive Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. John Landsdown, Mrs. Celia Walker and Mrs. Willie Mills. SPORTSMEN AND CLUB TWENTY FIVE IN JOINT OUTING i Club Twenty-five and Flint Colored Sportsmen had a joint outing at. the beautiful Corunner road, Wayside Park of Mrs. Wright~s. ~Baseball game, cricket, and basket Society News ~ sports. Dancing on the outdoor pa vilion with amplified music contributed heavily to the entertainment of the vast crowd of participants, who gleefully and gracefully engaged the fantastic toe. Re. freshments _and holiday felicitations rounded out the afternoon and evening there. Several home parties were staged after the picnic hours. The one at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry G. Reynclds was typical but in one respect different since it was made up exclusively of members of Mrs. Reynolds~ family and near kin. It is good to get the family together some time. On the whole. Flint took the 1941 ~Fourth of July in the spirit of independence for which the day is celebrated. TO IDYLE WILDE Talking apout independence, here is one for you: The Undertaker~s wife, Mrs. Henry G. Reynolds and a party of her girl friends refuse to drive the Lincoln car but took the little ~Lizzy~ and motored to Idyle Wilde for the Fourtn of July this time. After arriving there the Whittington girls telephoned their father that the trip was safe getting there.,Mr. Whitington was very pleased ~with this for he took occasion to relate the incident tc Mr. Reynolds. Like an efficient general, her shapely, ~graceful figure attired in a brown riding habit, she has directed the addition of an archery course, horse-shoe pitching grounds, a badminton court, and other recreation facilities, besides seeing to it that the saddle horses were well groomed, and the fine cement tennis court ready for action. With all the studies producing the largest number of pictures that they have for a long time, eve. more than before the new Worli War, colored players had a good week. The largest number at one ~ ~MOMELNTS HARRY LEVETTE _ASCLIATED NEGRO FREI Sturges. _Jesse Lee Brooks, well~loved highly talented~ former star of ~Run Little Chillun~ and many other stage plays, has an important featured part of a minister and leader of a small colored community in the south. An important ~lesson is brought out in-his staging an of which are. sequence, his powerful voice leads the singing of ~Go-Down Moses~. by the congregation. The Carlyle Scott chorus made the recordings. Including 25 women, 20 children and a half dozen babies in arm there were nearly 100 colored players in the scene, all seleeted by Charles Butler of Central Casting Bureau. They were complimented highly by director Sturgis for their fine acting. and excellent deportment. The large cast of bit and atmosphere players, with Charlie Moore in an amusing comedy role in a separate sequence were as follows: Madam Sul-Te-Wan, J. Hairston, ~Hot Shot~ Thomas, Joan Douglas, Arie Lee Branche, Inez Hatchett, Davis, Ervin Smith, Notable Vines, Artie Overstreet, Elizabeth Gray, Fay Fifer, Elizabeth Ashley, Myrtle Anderson, Frances Driver, Ruth Byers, Mark Carnahan, John Criner, Jack Winslow, James Davis, Lillian Taylor, Matilda Caldwell, William Broaddus, Pearl Lancaster, Ruth Bias, Cora Lang, A. Downs, and Harry Levette. A pair of 11 month old twins, that behaved like old troupers and sere the center of attraction from both colored and white were Joseph and Jean Wideman. They are the children -of the justly proud Joseph and Eugenia Wiedman of South Los Angeles. Pardon, Man 7s Back To Prison ~ ATLANTA, Ga.~(SNS)~ ~ A man who thought he had @ pardon from former Rivers was back ih prison Monday after 16 years of freedom. Isiah Cotton, alias Lloyd api ton, 42, escaped from the -County prison camp in April a ies, less than a month after he was sentenced to serve 20 years in Fulton County for burglary. 8 Cotton was quoted as saying ~I wouldn~t: have come back, but some friends said they had a pardon for me.
