Ballou Praised FLINT, Mich ~Hurrah for Attorney Joseph N. Birch and Rev. Thomas L Ballou Those men have already started their crusade for better living conditions among people of Color in Flint Besides being @ good lawyer Mr. Birch is a gentleman who has his people at heart and we do believe that he will not be one of those who will get so far in the limelight of public notice that it will cause him to begin Holding His Palm Up From His Hips. We. believe that Mr. Birch is an exceptional young man _ in that he has some statesmanship in his Physical constitution which will bare good fruit for the betterment of the people of his Race. It was this sort of fitness that led the miembers of the NAACP to elect him at its head last January. We will sudiously follow this young Jeadership ~and cooperate with him as long as he proves fitting and conscientious to our cause. Rev: Thomas L. Ballou is a tried and faithful soldier for the good of the race. Besides being one of our best Ministers, he is also a man seasoned in the attribute of Statesmanship. He has a love for his people. His ideal is to have them live not only simple believers in the, christian way of life, but also to have them do something and be somebody. There is not a selfish bone in him. These are types of men we need to stand at the helm of our ship of state. At the last City Commission meeting these two men made an urgent plea for better breaks'in this city for eur people in general This is the kind of things the Flint Brownsville News has been agitating for all along. It is a circumstance where | John-Gibson -and. othe: demanis the supreme sacrifice the individual, ~ven of physical life. This is the price of Our Citizenship Here. That citizenship is guaranteed by our National constitution, but whereever the Negro is concerned, too many of the groups, of the other race, eschew the letter~ of the Law; and too many persons in authority condone. these practices. The Negro Youth might well be inspired to do great good for the strengthening of our Democracy by general application of tie spirit of our great constitution. The Youth Council here will lose a fine member of their rank, in their president, John Gibson. This paper wishes to advise those, who are left: to carry on cooperatively and make a good job of the program which they have now before them. Henry G. Reynolds, Undertaker.
