NEELY KEYHOLE ~RLASH! =A few days ago a welj known gent of Flint discovered that vandals had ~practically ruined his. car after damaging it with a knife. The gent became nighly suspicious of anothe: man, | and as a result, the other man was jailed. Now let me say before I begin, that newspaper ethics and regard for the general public d not permit me to mention nr However this column is always en the alert and with no willful Person~s | Treputation,.we shalll proceed with | ~the facts. The man under suspic ion spent almOst five days in jail waiting for someone to make. up his mind who the guilty party really owas. According-to the grapevine the gent who; did the complaining is going to be very | surprised when the truth is known. The detective division of the Flint. police department is in.no way asleep on the case. They are going to solve it and when -ihey do somebody~s face is certainly going to be very red. Felks you ain~t seen nothin~ yet. Just wait until the over-excited gent finds out that the person who did the damage was NOT the man who was arrested, but somebody closer to him than he knows. It~s tOo bad such thjngs happen, The Negro race is having troubles enough without jumping into hasty conclusions just because the imagination runs wild. Overheard at Magnus Clarks~ Place: Mamie Bean: I.sure like to sit around the table with a lot of folks. ~Sorta makes it seem like home,~ et eee Mrs. Rose Wood~s daughter, Norma Lée, who has been ill for several days, wants to say that -she isn~t just playing hookey from school. We shouldn~t think so, especially since Norman Lee receives very good grades fn her classes. Although feeling badly, she managed to eat a meal consisting of everything from soup to nuts. She then tOpped the whole thing. ot with a huge piece of pie. Folks are beginning to call atterney Van Dyne a cowboy becasue he manages to loop a sticker On almost everybody~s car. He certainly deserves the post of circuit judge and if it was left to me, he~d even have a sticker on the tep of the highest building in 4town. The other lady in the case happened to be the wife~s own cousin, Keyhole tcpics: Police Chie? Anderson: * ~We certainly would have more Negro police if we had the funds.~ Incidently, the chief~s home town of Wichita, Kansas has recently retired two Negro policemen and added two more. On top ef that, Wichita has an,all Negro fire station. How about a colored fire patrol for Flint? Which is about all till next week, foiks. But remember do your Easter shopping early. ~W. V.'N, A STRANGE thing happened in Flint last week. It happened right before the eyes of every Negro and white person in this city. It was something that the whole state and United States is still talking about. A Negro by the name of Roy M. Vandine Van Dyne came very very close to the nomination of. Circuit Judge of Genesee county. The only thing that stopped him was perhaps eleven of twelve votes. Imagine that~if you can. Just about a dozen people who call themselves citizens and voters were too lazy to go to the polls. Perhaps it was a little too cold outside or perhaps it was just a little too much trouble. Regardless 6f what the excuse, the Negroes of Flint will be remembered as the ones who let the first great chance they had for representation go out }. the window. Let~s stop blaming the white people for the fact that we are overlooked. It~s about time we | began getting the dust off our own | feet. We sincerely hope Mr. Van |) Dyne will not be the least - dis YOUR correspondent asked a few person what their idea was about the night clubs in this city. The | general idea seemed to be some thing like this: ~We pay a cover Jlonger~.;| RECREATION | ore. NEWS. ing re-registered February 24th, With about fourteen boys in the first -group. The boys wil! go out~. on Friday evening and return Sunday evening. Since Mr. Dents is off the program, Mr. Edw. R. This Troop is already | registered and. have several boys in uniform. The troop has a mem- | berghip of about 18 registered boys.: The Cub Pack at the St. John Center has also been take over by Mr. Felton since.Mr. Taylor left the program. This is made up of boys under 12 yegrs of age. Girl Scout Troop No. 69 held a Valentine Party last Thursday at the Clifford Street Center at 3:30 p.m. This-is one of the newly or Ul a lots better than a small group at } two-bits. Then too, the public is looking for a lot more for their two bits than the old-time twisting and Squirming that used to be all the~ go. The day of the half-naked Snake dance is gone. Give the public a little more of Marcellus and the man who imitated a drunk at the Golden Leaf ~club recently, and you~re going to be playing to packed houses in Flint instead of Saginaw. ~What SEZ a North Side Lady: are you making cracks about the |ladies~ hats for? Girl Scout Troop No. 110 at the St. John Center, under the leadershp of Mrs. Odell Broadway with Mrs. Mazella Enos ably assisting, is making splendid pregress as usual. The girls seem to be always busy doing something as a troop. SPECIAL The ultimate aim is to have all these troops, both boys and girls, in uniforms as they should be. This will bring about the necessary distinction that will make the boys and girls feel proud that they are Scouts, This, of course. will afford the stimulus toward making them better Scouts and will, at the same time, create a desire on the part of other boys and girls to become @ part of this world-wide program~ of character building activities.
