TROUTMAN HAMTRAMCK, Michigan ~ One point which has not been stressed in the current ~political campaign in the city of Hamtramck is the incumbent Mayor was responsible for the appointment of a Negro to the Hamtramck Police force. When Mayor Kanar took the office of Mayor early in 1939 he found that former Mayor Rudolpn G. Tenerowicz had made a series of last minute appointments to the police and fire departments of the city. One of these appointments was that of Patrolman Edward Page to the police department. It is to be recalled that the charter of the city of Hamtramck provides that all police and fire department appointments must confirmed after a six month trial period, since Page had not completed this period of time it be Kanar, thru his Police Commissioner, to confirm or reject the appointment of Page and several other appointments of the Tenerowicz regime. It will be recalled that. several fire department ap| pointments were rejected, but Mr. Page was retained on his job and ky virtue of this confirmation by the Kanar administration, Page is now a life-time member/of the Hamtramck Police Department and:|Mayor Kanar~s Appointment Of Negro Policemen Is is Cause For Re-Election be | came the duty of Mayor Walter | Kristalsky Seeks Council Position.
